I've been using Nero to burn Verbatim DigitalMovie DVD-R 4x with a Sony DRU700A successfully for several weeks. No coasters at all in the first 20 or so disks. Now suddenly I'm getting write failures repeatedly. I tested the burner with a Sony DVD+RW 8x and it works fine. Purchased a new pack of Verbatim DVD-R, burn fails every time.

So, am I wrong to assume that success with the +RW rules out any driver/ASPI/cabling/DMA/firmware/cleaning issues? What might this indicate besides bad media?

Also, Nero doesn't seem to be creating a log file. Does that have to be enabled somewhere?

    Thanks!

Hmmm...probably should have chosen a more appropriate forum. Sorry.
Can you tell I'm a newbie?

    Hi there,

Can you post us a full Nero log ! (Remove your Serial # on top).
There's lots of information in there that can help us, help you !

Or provide us much more information like:

What media are you using ? Brand / Media ID

    VSO Inspector v1.1 --> http://www.vso-software.fr/
can provide the media id !
Also will tell us what's your burner model and firmware revision.

What speed are you burning those ?

What is the exact errors are you getting ?

Nero should create a log, once ok or failed, click on the LOG button, instead of the DONE one.

Thanks. I'm using the Verbatim DVD-R which supposed to be the high-quality Metal AZO variety. From what I've gleaned from this forum so far, looks like it might be a Roxio driver problem.

I performed another test with the same result: DVD+RW burns just fine; DVD-R fails with an "illegal disk" error. Is that consistent with a driver problem?

    Here's the log file:

Hallelujah! Roxizap solved the problem. Note that the various pointers to Roxizap link to a generic help page at Roxio that doesn't mention Roxizap. I found it by using the search function.

I'm still puzzled about DVD+RW working fine but DVD-R failing to burn. Guess I don't know everything yet.

Thanks to all the contributors here. Browsing the various postings gave me the clues I needed to solve this problem.
