Hi i just bought DVD-RW disks, i meant to buy DVD+RW, is there any difference. I have a + RW burner Dan
Run the Nero Info Tool to check your burners capabilities.Maybe it can use them Then verify that your standalone can read them. http://www.iomagic.com/downloads/utilities/NeroInfoTool_207.zip Both varieties have their true believers. There isn't much to choose either way.
Hi I dont use Nero, i dont need to know which is better i need to know if they are compatible with most players. Will my burner burn them , i have a DVD+RW, i dont want to open the package then i cant return them Dan
You'll have to have a Dvd-RW drive or a Dvd -/+ RW drive. Older drives, usually single format of either plus or dash. Newer drives in the last several years, then they'll usually be dual format. Post back the info from your burner's brand name and model # and we'll tell you if it is dual format or single format. Your stand alone players can also factor in. RW media is trickier for them to read. Then there's a chance they may not like the dash format. You won't know this until you burn some discs and test them out in all the stand alone players, game consoles, and pc drives that will be playing your backups. RW discs are great to practice with, but when playing them in a lot of different drives, the compatability will factor in.
That LG drive is dual format: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters/lg-gsa-h22n/1764 There's some feedback on that site from fellow LG H22N users. That LG drive can also booktype the plus format to dvd-rom.This help increases stand alone player compatability, making the plus format superior as apposed to the dash format. +R/+RW/and +R DL media can be set to be booktyped using certain programs. Here's a free program that'll give you: Burner model#/Firmware version/MID code, and can tell you if backups have been booktyped: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd-r_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm Insert backup disc/select drive/click identify/click clipboard/paste it into your next post. The worst case scenario if you do burn those dash RW's, is a no disc error on some stand alone players.
Thank you saugmon for all your work, i will stick with DVD +, just a short drive to return the -, the DVD+ has been working great for me Lesson learned read before you buy Dan
I just downloaded DVD Identifier. Can someone explain to me exactly the purpose of this software? Will it tell me if I have potential coasters? Or does it just identify the type of media that's been purchased? Please advise...
