I have been converting and burning avi files to DVD using DVD Santa, and just recently the encoding gets about 5-10 mins into it and then windows shuts down and restarts. Any help would be really good.
gleitsrik, Welcome to the forum. Most of the time this is caused by heat buildup inside the unit as the OS at a certain point re-starts the computer so you do not have computer damage. Have you cleaned out the inside of the computer of lint. Are all of the cables seated properly and securely. You also might need to D/L a free registry cleaner and clean the registry of conflicts as that also will cause a computer to re-start. Make sure all of the fans inside are operating and you might need to add another fan
Hello! and Thank-you very much for your response, and glad to be here! I have checked and it seem's like that all the fan's are working(there is a fairly loud noise coming from my pc). Although I have'nt opened it up to clean the lint off, even though I see lint through the gaurds on the blades. All of the cables are not seated completely stable, but they were'nt before anyway(i just moved my system across the room). Where can I get a free registry cleaner?
gleitsrik , Below are 2 registry cleaners. The first one only lets you remove 2 problems at a time unless you pay for it so you just keep going and going until you have no more problems. But it is good and lets you make a backup of the registry so you can restore it if needed. The second one is excellent but I suggest you read the info as you do not want to remove any thing unless it is necessary. If it is green then you should be OK http://www.registry-cleaner.net/ http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm
Car.Mike Thankyou so much!! I installed the registry cleaner and DVD Santa works fine now. Once again Thankyou very much!!
I converted and burnt 1 file and it worked fine. Then tried again and the same thing happened. It shut down and restarted windows again.
gleitsrik, Looks like we are going to have to see if there is a computer problem inside the computer. Clean out the inside and leave the side off when you do the next few DVD's
It looks like I have to use a screwdriver and pull half of the back of the computer off. Will everthing be alright?
gleitsrik, Do you have a tower that slides off the front or does 1 side come off? If you are not sure what to do have a friend that knows a little more do it for you. If you try it unplug the the computer from the wall and make sure you ground yourself by touching the side rails of the computer. You want no static electricity
Car.Mike Thankyou so much with your patience with me!! I actually did get a friend to clean the lint out for me, and he said that the temp was about 68 degree's while idling,(which he said was way too much)then a program was run and it hit about 75 degree's and then it shut down, then re-started. It is all cleaned out now and the temp is way lower(40 degree's) he showed me how to tell the temp by hitting the delete button while my PC is starting up. If you think it's a good idea that I post the step's to this let me know. My problem now!! Is that this arvo, I converted and burnt a file with DVD Santa which turned out perfect. Also I ripped an already ripped DVD with DVD Shrink which was fine. The third time I was trying to convert with Santa and then after I hit create DVD I get "DVD Santa has encounted a problem and needs to close" error report. It's the same with the other conversion program's I've got. Any Idea's??
gleitsrik Either the file got corrupted or you are still having conflicts w/ the registry. Did you run the registry cleaner?
I having problems with dvd santa 4.0 also/ I d/l one movie with it then I keep getting error messages saying. dvdsanta has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconveniences. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell microsoft about this problem. any help would be appreciated.
sjrodgers, Sounds like you have a corrupt or not properly structured DVD d/l. You can try the d/l again and if it error's out then the d/l is corrupt. Do you get that error message w/ any other d/l's. If so in the error message is the technical message saying what the error is and usually gives you a workaround if Microsoft knows of one
sjrodgers , Since that is a Microsoft error either you are missing a OS file or it is a corrupted file on your computer. You might try and do an OS repair but you need to find the data that comes w/ the error as the info usually takes you to a workaround if their is one
