Ok, I have a few questions. I'm attempting to capture screenshots of dvd material. They're jagged. If there is no action onscreen, they turn out ok, but if anything moves, jagged. I use these screenshots to produce commercial sales literature, so they really need to be as sharp as possible. I also need to produce a trailer or commercial from a dvd. How best to capture this audio/video at the highest quality possible. How much detail or resolution should I be expecting in a best case scenario. How good a screenshot can I possibly get? And how should I go about it. I'm presently using nero digital 8 amd phenom 4core 4 gigs geforce 8600gt xp professional 3.0 gig sata drive The hardware should be up to snuff, in my mind.
In an NTSC country, 720X480. PAL 720X576. The 'jaggies' are interlacing artifacts. You need to capture only one 'field' to prevent them. This will cut your effective vertical resolution in half. Choosing this depends on the app you're playing/framegrabbing in. As to clips, the resolution's the same, and if the source vid isn't protected DVD Shrink in reauthor mode can extract clips with no loss.
