I used dvd shrink and nero to copy one movie and it was perfect., However the next movie that I copied had "closed caption" words at the bottom of the screen. I copied it the second time using DVD shrink again and still I have the words at bottom of screen. the original movie does NOT have it. what am i doing wrong? I sure wouuld appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thanks in advance. Virgil Hummel
Hi Virgil, My DVD player acted a bit odd just like yours is doing. Some closed caption would come up and just stay there for a while. You didn't mention which version of 3.1 you had, mine did this using one of the early versions. Try the newest version and see if that helps. Cheers, Frank
vhummel you can also re-author and cut all the cc out of your movie as well as uneeded languages. I now am to a point where I edit the beginning crap out and the ending credits out. This also will help the compression ratio to be less and that means faster back up times. I find it refreshing to see the movie start as soon as the dvd starts playing and end with out seeing who the assistant 3rd waterboy to Mr._____ is.
thanks for the advice. now another question from a "dummie" how do I re-author? I see the re-author tab but I dont know how to tell what I have taken out.
Hi Virgil, You should read some guides! They will explain in detail. http://www.chrismccann.co.uk http://dvdshrink.info/guides.php A lot of people just open their movie in Shrink and once it is done analyzing, they just hit "backup". This will work but it's a good idea to help the program improve the quality of your copy. First, when Shrink is done analyzing move your cursor down to the preview window, start the preview and then right click on the window. Select Audio from the menu. Now you can see what audio track you are currently listening to. Just make sure that the one you select using preview is the same as the box you check. Uncheck the rest. Uncheck any subpicture boxes as well. Re-authoring: Once the movie is analyzed and opened, Select Re-author. Now you can see all the parts or titles that your movie is made of on the right side of the window. Your Menu Won't Work When You Re-author! So.... Just right click on the parts you want in your compilation and select add from the menu or just drag them over to the left, this is your compilation window. The only one you really need is the big one, just look at the MB size. If there are two, use the preview window to select the one you like. One might be widescreen, the other full screen. You can drag various parts over and preview each by using the preview window. If you don't like it, just right click it and select delete from the menu. You can look at the whole thing by clicking on the top line of the compilation, it's a folder with "DVD" next to it. You can trim the credits or whatever you want using the start/end feature, just move the sliders around and adjust with the buttons untill you get it the way you want it, then select OK. Once this is completed, edit your audio and subpictures the way I described before. Make sure you have the latest stable version of Shrink installed, I'm using 3.1.7b5 at the moment, 3.1.6 is the current stable version. O.K. I have studied re-authoring from all sources and dutifully followed each step to re-author. But I still have the same problem !! I have wasted numerous blank dvd-r's and hours of time but I still get "closed captioning" at the bottom of the screen in all my movies. this thing has got me flabergasted. there has to be a setting that I am missing or something. where is there a forum that i can ask the question - Why am I getting ""closed captioning in every movie that i burn using dvd shrink ?
One the right side of shrink's screen you will see something like -menus-main movie-subpicture, right below subpicture un-check all those box's that might say spanish,french,english,unspecified. those are your closed-captioning subtitles and if you un-check those and you will no longer have subtitles when you play the movie. This also work's in re-author
Test your copy in your computer, not your DVD player. Are these closed captions there when you play the movie in your computer using your media player? If you open the burned disc with Shrink, there should be no sub-picture boxes to choose from. The sub-pictures were removed when you un-checked the boxes when you ran the original disc through the first time. I'll ask again, what version of Shrink 3.1 do you have? If you don't know or can't tell, uninstall it and install version 3.1.6. This program has developed rapidly over the past two months. Early versions had bugs. You should have done this already, using the guides: Select edit> preferences> stream selections Check the box that says "Disable all sub-pictures except menus and forced streams". Programs corrupted, buggy, conflicts with other programs and OS issues. 3. Hardware problems, drive firmware, player issues. $. Media issues. Thats why I ask questions, I'm trying to narrow it down a bit. If you don't answer them its a bit difficult to come up with a solution. I know you have a closed caption problem. I suspect it might be your player, or the version of Shrink that you are using, or the way you are using the program. So I want you to help me to eliminate some of the possibilities. Tell me what version of Shrink 3.1 you have. Play your copy in your computer and see if the problem is still there. Tell me if you unchecked all the sub-picture boxes.
