Hey there coopers, That's super news - you go there guy, burn on . . .! ! ! When you're feeling more relaxed, try that CD drive in another PC to see is it was 100% of the problem . . . Many times there are a couple of factors, when you can get them all straightened out your PC will run like a raped ape ) @Analyzer5, I'm really sorry you just don't get it at all . . . Media causes a whole host of problems . . Sometimes it is the sole cause of your problem and other times it has nothing at all to do with it BUT since it is so easy to fix (by using decent stuff) it's something extremely easy to remove from the mix. All problems are different - caused by different things - the only way to make things right is to "try" eliminating those known factors that could be the cause. Why reformat your entire system (something which I hate more than root canal), take the PC apart to change cables, jumpers, positions, etc if a change in discs might just do it. You have to be in our shoes, working for days with someone trying find a fix when just a change in media would have done it. It has happened time after time, year after year during the time I have spent here at aD. As far as an "attitude" . . . I saw you as the one who had the "attitude." You just made a statement that your media wasn't the issue and you didn't wish to consider the possibility that it could be a factor. I've never said it wouldn't burn, of course it does BUT many times you might have ½ a sleeve that doesn't burn at all. It does burn better on some drives rather than on others BUT CMC products have a reputation of giving Power calibration errors, CRC errors, pixelations, freezing and the list goes on - all because of inferior dye and application. When sections on the disc have thin OR even gaps of dye missing, nothing works right. Yet as usual, I ramble on . . Lol - Ya see, I know I get too "windy." Perhaps in time, when you're around here enough and see what I've seen you'll begin to get "religion". Many have. I'll even admit, it sometimes scares me - seeing how a seemingly complex problem vanishes when the media changes. I can only hope you might pick up one piece logic to take with you - When you begin to have burning issues, use an RW disc until the problem is resolved. Consider the fact that anything could be the problem, yes, even your treasured CMC manufactured discs. Wasting disc after disc making coasters is a waste of $$$ that isn't necessary. Pickup a Sony RW disc - yes, a decent quality RW disc and use it. That way I'm happy (you're eliminating the media issue) and we can look for other things to try until we are able to get you going once again. I probably won't change your mind about anything now BUT down the road, when experience does it's thing, you might not be so "set in your ways", refusing to listen to things that pple tell you just because you don't know enough about it - Here's hoping we get you straightened out also so your burning experience will be a bit more pleasant. Cheers, Pete
Have tired other media same problem but I will try it your way and get a sony disc eventhough I seriously doubt that is the problem given the previous post. And the other media was: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:RICOHJPN-R01-002] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [DVD+R] Manufacturer Name : [Ricoh Co. Ltd.] Manufacturer ID : [RICOHJPN] Media Type ID : [R01] Product Revision : [002] Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4,482.6MB = 4.38GB (4.70GB)] Recording Speeds : [1x , 2.4x , 4x] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
My advice is get decent media, follow a couple simple rules ie no multitasking etc (maybe one day PC DVD burning will be a breeze), but until then we follow these few simple rules and many a dvd sit on the shelf to be viewed again and again, instead of under coffee cups as coasters!
Thanks everyone. Would there be any point flashing my firmware to JS05 if i am now burning ok? (Well, semi-ok!) I found that my problem was my other cd burner on the same IDE cable (the slave). With it connected, I can't burn a DVD. With it disconnected, I can burn away to my hearts content.... Might try to figure out exactly WHY the CD burner is causing a problem when I have time. It has always been there as a slave, and previously I had a DVD ROM drive attached as the master. When I got my burner, I just pulled out the old DVD ROM and slipped the new burner in. Hmmm...
sounds like the jumper on the back of cd burner isn't correct.. ; changing too much at once just makes for more problems, sort the jumpers/cables out first as that sounds like your issue....
I don't think jumpers is the problem. The cd burner was set to slave previously and everything was working fine (with my DVD ROM as Master). Swapped the DVD ROM with my new burner (set to master), and I couldn't burn. Wierd. Anyway, I don't reall care I guess. I may as well sell my CD burner and my DVD ROM.
Just want to say I have the same problem as Cooper I unplug the CD Burner from the IDE Cable and I can burn fine I plug the cd burner in and the dvd burner will not burn. No idea what is causing this. It is not the jumpers they are set right the dvd is set to master and the burner is set to salve. If anyone has an idea shoot....cause i out of ideas.
analyzer5 - post a log for each of the 2 subsequent fails on different media, or at least the latest log. Also it would be worth removing the IDE controllers (as you're using the dreaded XP) and letting Windows reinstall them. I recall from yuor very first post/log that all 4 of your controllers stated they were set to DMA, but XP isn't very truthful about that kind of thing..
Creaky, My lastest burns with the cd burner unpluged have not failed, so do you want a log of the last good burns? Also to uninstall the IDE Controller I would do that through the control panel correct? The failed burn log is a the being of this forum and I forgot to save the good burn log from the last one I did if you need to see the good burn log I could burn something again and post it.
Here is a good log if you compare it to my first log can you tell what the difference is? analyzer5 - yer, remove the ide controllers thru device manager in control panel; as for your successful log all i can see is it worked and you used good media !
Analyzer5, So long as your discs keep coming with mfgrs like that, you won't have issues. Just remember to tell us that you're using Ricoh OR Ritek so we can remove media from the equation - Caio, Pete
ScubaPete, I burned the disc with the TDK and the memorex. The problem is I can't burn any dvd with my cd burner plugged in to the ide cable i have to unplug the the cd burner to get the dvd burner to work which does not really make sense to me.
Huuuummm, Perhaps you should try another cable - get the new round IDE cable and re-check all your jumper settings. it sounds like you have something like a RMA conflict. We're getting closer. Question - Did you say, when you have the CD burner hooked up that it works alright ? Pete
ScubaPete, All jumpers(dvd to master and cd to salve)are set right and i'm using a brand new ide cable i replaced it when i got this new burner(it's not round i don't know if that makes a difference). When I have the cd Burner Hooked up the DVD Burner will not burn at all to any type of dvd media. With the cd burner disconnected from the ide cable, the dvd burner works fine. If it is an RMA conflict how do I fix it?
The question is . . . When both drives are hooked up, does the CD drive work ? With both drives hooked up, will the DVD drive do CD's ? Lastly, Have you tried to run 2 IDE cables having the burners jumped to master on both drives - your HD's would be secondary on the IDE cables. Most important - I just re-read the entire thread - Please check your IDE cable to make sure it's an 80 wire cable and not a 40-wire cable - (Sorry I didn't check that before.) Pete
Looking for ScubaPete...I am having similar problems. I have a Lite-On 16x DVD R/RW and have used DVD Shrink to shrink some DVDs. I 'shrank' one as small as I could (~ 2.4 GB) prior to running Nero Express 6. When I ran Nero Express 6, it stated that the burn process failed. I have the log below. i have run all of the Nero updates because I am using Windows XP with Service Pack 2.2. I then simply tried to burn a data disc (both times using Lite-Ons Single Layer DVDs that came with the R/W Drive) and it still failed. Any ideas? FYI. I have tried 4x, 6x, and 8x.
@kbroulet - quick - edit your post, i think you've accidently pasted your serial back into post after cutting it out ! i'll edit my reply shortly after having looked at ya log, just wanna nudge you to cut that serial.. edits - 1/ your DMA is off.... 2/ plus you're at 8x, slow it down while your DMA is off... 3/ it looks like you're using decent media 4/ your firmware - not sure if it's old or not.. i'll let someone else answer that Hope that helps, sorry i'm rushing as need an x-files fix before my daily 05:30 wakeup
