've used and loved this program for a good long while, but realized the other day that I've never tried to back up any of my DVDs from when I was living in England. I tried, it played fine on my PC but on my Sony standalone, I get the message 'playback prohibited by area restrictions.' I tried it on my friend's Toshiba, same thing. And on another one from Radio Shack - these backups will not play on region-protected standalone players!

I tried selecting 'region-free' in DVD Shrink, then someone told me standalones will often play DVDs that are ONLY from that region, so then I tried checking only 'Region 1' - still wouldn't play. Then I tried one with all regions checked, and it still would not play. This really sucks - can someone help me? Otherwise, as much as I hate it, will have to look for other dvd backup solution....
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks...!

DVD's from England are PAL format.
DVD's from USA are NTSC format.

Convert from PAL to NTSC. Click Search messages above and enter PAL to NTSC to see how others have done this. Also try a Google or other search for "PAL to NTSC" conversion software.

Use a Multisystem DVD player that will play both PAL and NTSC format DVD's.
