Hello, I found this thread yesterday after trying to rip RS2 on my Sony DRU-710 I just got.
I used DVD Shrink and came up with the same error, so I plugged in Google "cyclic redundancy check and DVD Shrink" and found this site.

I had bought both it and Bourne Supremacy, and I always back up any vid I buy, as when I have loaned them out in the past, they have come back scratched.

I tried both of my drives too, and no luck.
Here is what worked for me, and it was so easy.

    1. Installed VOB Blanker and ran it.
Only two things you need to do it it.
One, supply the folder to the vid files when you browse the DVD.
    This is the input field.

    2. Supply the folder for the output files.
On my C drive I have a folder name "Movies to rip" with sub folders inside I name after the movie.

Afterwards the folder in Movies to rip was around 7 or so GB.

    3. Fire up DVD B and choose "Open Files" from the menu.
I choose the Video TS folder mentioned in a post earlier here, and it analyzed it which did not take very long.
I had to supply a new output folder where Shrink puts the compressed files (I run Shrink at stock settings always) and had a blank 8x in my new Sony's drive.

The whole process went without a hitch.
The extras I backed up also, and it copies completely with Shrink, no need for VOB Blanker.

The Bourne Supremacy does not need VOB Blanker at all, it backed up fine.

The cool thing about having two burners is I put the movie in the older one and Shrink reads it from there, and then burns to the blank in the new drive.
No need to swap out the vid for a blank like I use to have to.

Plus I set it to shut down the PC afterwards, all while I am asleep.

Glad I found this place to get the fix.

    ScubaPete,
Thanks for responding. I finally got it to work using the patch. I ended up just rebooting and reinstalling the patch, and then it finally worked.

    Thanks again.

When I try to get the new PSL for DVD Decrypter the site will not allow me to login. It says it is not accepting new members at this time. Does anyone have it to email to me?

I found this fix in in one of the other forums:

    1. Copy the folloing lines into notepad (don't forget to include the PSL line at the top):

    PSL
    27920-27932
    27933-27945
    27946-27958
    27959-27971
    27972-27984
    27985-44286
    44287-44299
    1834110-1899645
    2371592-2371604
    2371605-2371617
    2371618-2371630
    2371631-2371643
    2371644-2371656
    2371657-2371669
    2371670-2380535
    2380536-2380548
    4169752-4169821
    4169840-4169909

    2. Save this as any filename and extension.
    3. Put Little Black Book into your DVD ROM drive.
    4. Start DVD Decrypter 3.5.1.0
    5. Under "File" select "Protected Sectors List" then import.
    6. Browse to where you stored the above mentioned text. If an error appears make sure the is no space after the letters PSL in the first line.
    7. Decrypt you movie and enjoy.

Thanks for the news on AnyDVD! It worked without a hitch. After messing with this problem for about a week, I luckily stumbled across this forum. Thanks again.

    Sup Fellas .. .

So ive followed along with this thread and am part way through ripping my copy of RE2 to back it up with the psl file and it seems to be going smoothly.

I plan after the .iso is transferred to use DVD shrink and then burn using Sonic Record Now . . . wish me luck

My further question goes along with Garden State . . . im haveing the same cyclic redundency error with it as i did with RE2 and im curious as to if there is a PSL file out yet for it - ive tried vobblanker and it messed up or something because i couldn't shrink it afterwards . . . please advise because assuming my RE@ backup goes smoothly my next challenge will be Garden State

Are these types of issue something to be expected in the future? Is this the new wave of protection?

Get back to me when you can . . . thanks mucho

    Wiz

    Use AnyDVD.

To date it breaks every encryption.

    The same goes for DVDD.

    Cheers,

Any idea on how to USE AnyDVD? It doesn't have a "help" section. I double click on the .exe and it gives me a window with a bunch of information, I click OK. It gives me another window with some different information, I click OK. It goes away, it doesn't burn anything.

So I go back to DVDShrink, and it still stalls with the Cyclic Redundancy crap. I recently purchased Smallville Season 1 and can't back it up. Also, I've only had a problem so far with "The Forgotten"

I've read this entire thread so far and have no idea what is meant by "unreferenced material" in the beginning of the thread. I downloaded vobblanker and have no idea what I'm supposed to do with that. Now I've downloaded AnyDVD and still don't know what to do.

Can anyone please provide me with instructions? Thanks.

Mapleman....AnyDVD runs in the backgroung, you don't do anything with it. Try DVD Decrypter then Shrink. Set Decrypter to ISO then open files with Shrink. Works most of the time with these tough DVDs

    mapleman,

    and,

as long as you continue to sit there and continue do nothing you'll still have no idea ~

should the day ever come that you actually do something then everything will make sense

    MEANWHILE,

    We are always short on seat-warmers . . .

    Cheers,

yeah, i have no idea what you mean by that, scuba. anyway, the problem i was having was that the disc was already in, i kept double clicking on AnyDVD and it kept saying the protection was removed, but at 50%, dvdshrink kept getting the cyclic thing. anyway, in frustration, i took out the DVD and inserted a different one and i saw how it worked.

for any as confused as i initially was, i just had AnyDVD installed, opened DVDShrink, inserted the disk and then AnyDVD pops up and does its thing. click OK when it's done, then run shrink as normal.

so far I have been able to back up every single disc for Smallville on Season one EXCEPT disc 1. even with AnyDVD working exactly the same way it did on discs 2-6, i get the cyclic error on disc 1 and none of the others.

so, to sum up, to date, AnyDVD will fix everything everyone's mentioned so far EXCEPT Smallville season 1 disc 1.

thanks for your time and help so far. i really appreciated the seatwarmer comments. i'll figure out what they mean when i have time to devote to that.

so far i've downloaded VOBblanker (still haven't used because i haven't figured out how), DVDShrinker, and AnyDVD. if i really have to get DVDdecoder or whatever it's called, just to backup smallville s1d1, i guess i will try that.

    Hi Everyone,

I had the same problems trying to back up those same movies the solution to the problem is AnyDVD. Download this program and try it out for your self. It is a trial version of the program which will simplify things unlike decryptor once you put your dvd in the anydvd will come up telling you that it has detected all of the errors then click continue after that go to shrink or dvdxcopy and copy with a problem.

OK, I got AnyDVD and was able to "removed RCE protection" on my Smallville Seasons 1-3 and burn them using DVD Shrink. thing is, now i try to watch them to verify everything's ok, and they all, every single one, at about the same time start Skipping like the DVD is scratched or the original was scratched and burned that way.

thing is, there are no scratches at all. is it possible AnyDVD allows you to start the burn process, but the copyprotection still manages to screw up the burn process? guess i gotta throw away these 18 DVDs. i'd be interested in hearing your theories and what not.
