Hi, I have experienced this problem many times in the past. I have found if you use a program called DvdFab Platinum and use the gold mode, then the wizard, and then choose to copy the whole disk uncompressed, it allows you to copy the disc to your HDD and removes the protection on the discs which i believe causes the CRC problem, then you can use DVD Shrink to compress it in what way you like. Im not sure if this has been posted previously but if it hasnt i hope this will help with this problem.
If using DVDFab Platinum, why use DVD Shrink? On most releases the free DVDFab HD Decrypter will handle the copy protection. It's the same decryption software as in the Platinum. The platinum includes the backup and burning options, besides the decryption software. FixVTS is one of the easier programs for compliance processing when the decryption software doesn't do the entire job. If FixVTS doesn't do the job there is VOBblanker for more in depth compliance processing. I've seen where some recommend processing with FixVTS before using the files in VOBblanker. Cyclic redundancy isn't much of a problem as long as the user knows what it is and the process for correcting. When Saw 3, region 1, first came along, it was weeks before DVDIdle was up to speed and it took Slysoft a while on that one for the full DVD.
Hey i have a problem when i'm trying to make a backup of a dvd. I am used Ripit4me to get everything onto my HD but when i try to use dvd shrink to compress it my computer always restarts at around 40%. This has never happened to me before and i really don't know what to do so any suggestions would be helpful
Hey you guys i have a problem i keep on trying to play a dvd on my toshiba laptop and it comes up with a I/O device error, i have been trying to solve this for a while now and cant seem to fix it can anyone help me out there i would greatly appreciate it for your assistance ty!
I start by going to DVD Shrink and hitting open disk. It bypasses the 30 second quick analyzing mode and goes straight to analysing the DVD. At 14% it stops. The thing is i have burned the dvd before and it has worked fine. SO i try to get another copy because i already deleted it from my HD and now this crap starts. Im using Sony DVD-R and the dvd im trying to shrink is Borat. The fact that i have shrunk the dvd before and it works fine is confusing me. Please help me!
Hi zillm7360, You may not like this suggestion but, somehow it seems that your source DVD has been damaged since your last copy. I would first try and recover the deleted copy of Borat from the hard drive using an undelete utility and use it to make more copies. You will never recover the data lost on the DVD!! Good Luck
zillm7360 Once you do a DVD the quick analysis file is stored in a hidden file. You have to delete the quick analysis file for a quick analysis to be repeated. So, that's normal. Being as how you're stopping at 14% each time, that indicates a problem with the disc. Have you made sure it is clean and shiny? Fingerprints and smudges can cause a read problem. Check for a scratch. Normally if a disc has worked properly, a failure to read comes about by some kind of physical damage. You can do a read scan to find out if there are bad sectors, if you don't see a physical flaw.
zillm7360, From a newbie in training, not to belabor a point, I was having I/O sector problems today(as though I understand this stuff). In my case, pulled the new blank out of the burning drive, looked very closely and saw a spot from lint or something like that and also noticed my fingerprint. Cleaned it off, tried to burn again, no success. Put in a fresh blank...bingo, bango burn completed with no problems... and kept my fingers out of the way. For whatever it is worth, my observation is that you can have "unseen" problems with a source or burning DVD and the only thing to do is replace it or burn the movie(particularly if you don't plan to keep it),as I sometimes do, to a +/-RW, on a stand alone, watch it then write over it later with something new. Hope things work out for you.
Thank you, ScubaPete, for your help on the settings for DVDDecrypter. Your post was 2 years old, but it has helped. I bought the first season of Riptide (1984 TV show) and found that the 3rd disk--right out of the box, unscratched, no visible damage (3rd episode on the 3rd disk actually) skipped and froze almost every DVD player I tried it on. I bought it online from a national retailer, but by the time I got to the bad sector/disk, it was too late to warranty. I found one player to play it fully (a VHS <--> DVD recorder/player/dubber), and one Sony external DVD-ROM. I wanted to make a copy of the one disk to play on any DVD player. I don't feel like this is violating copyright, because I BOUGHT the set, and cannot easily watch ONE disk! I am presently using DVDShrink to make a backup. I will burn both the DVDShrink and DVDDecrypter versions and see how they turn out!
CRXPanda A lot has happened in the past 2 years. For older movies DVD Decrypter works okay. Most of the new releases with ARccOS, especially those with multiple bogus files, prevent DVD Decrypter from making a clean rip. RipIt4Me was a good freeware choice, it uses DVD Decrypter in the process. However, it is no longer supported due to legal problems. DVDIdle is still giving away DVDFab HD Decrypter, which does a good job. What I'm saying is your decryption software is obsolete, you need to seriously consider upgrading your programs. If you like DVD Decrypter, go with RipIt4Me till copy protection comes along to make it obsolete. Also, get DVDFab HD Decrypter and learn to use it as well. Hopefully DVDIdle will keep it a freeware program.
PACMAN777, RI4M in combnation with IMGBurn is working pretty well for me right now. I had a commercial operaton convert my 40 yr old super8 movies of my kids to a digital tape and a DVD. Once I got the DVD, I just used RI4M, to make duplicate copies for family members. I'm sure there are simpler possibly more effecient ways, but I'm just plain spoiled to using RI4M. I have a 1.7xxx ver on my laptop and 1.6xxx on my PC. If I have to clean and reformat those hdd's and since RI4M is no longer supported, will I need to consider going to DVDFAB hd Decrypter? I currently have DVDFAB Platinum on my pc? Thankyou for any input and/or proper direction for my questions.
With copying the Super 8 to DVD, I don't think the studio would add copy protection. No copy protection, no need for RI4M. If it's just copy, ImgBurn can handle that or use most any burn suite with the copy DVD function. If the studio put the files on a dual layer DVD and you want some DVD5(s), that takes some transcoding or encoding. It just depends on what you want to do. Version 1.7.1.0 was the last RI4M, so if I was you, I'd have that one on all the systems being used for bypassing copy protection. DVDFab HD Decrypter won't be needed until a new copy protection comes along to render RI4M obsolete. In the end it's preference that wins out. If the software you're using is doing what you want and you're happy with it, there's not a whole lot of reason to change till it let's you down (even if some steps may not be necessary).
quote=PacMan777, thanx for the updated info, but scubapete's settings helped me on a new (Anchor Bay) release. I thought it was a bad burn, but after using a disk recovery program (for HDD but will work on DVD and CD too) I found the file sructure to have a lot of bogus data on that one episode (3 of 5), so maybe they tried to copyguard it in a spoilsport sort of way... anyhow, the dvdshrink version burned nicely and plays on every player I have. the decrypter version was too large so I just saved it as a backup if anything goes wrong with the disc. If the DVD drive in my notebook fails to recognize a disk, then the disk has some new copyguarded whatsit on it...but it will play thru the external dvd burner I have, but I have to re-author on dvdshrink. The only disk with problems outside the norm was the TV show one (came out in 2006) I haven't had any other setbacks from my outdated dvd back-up software (even the original Star Wars trilogy copied, but it was the crappy re-re-re-release so I deleted it and bogught the original theatrical versions) :-D
Thank you again, as always. Situation and Question: I have a "saved" copy of RI4M VER 1.7.1.0. on my laptop's Desktop. I copied it to my PC's desktop, then sent it to Program Files, to install[onto my PC] from that location. I did set a Restore Point, first, uninstall ver 1.6xxx, then installed 1.7.1.0 with no success. It seemed to be looking for [now defunct]website assistance for installation. I uninstalled 1.7.1.0. and attempted another install, to no avail. Is it just me or are there other problems after all?
DVD Decrypter has long been known for it's ability to rip problematic files. However, if DVD Decrypter is ripping the files and removing the copy protection, then it would have to be the older copy protection. Possibly with your problem DVD it was something to do with file structure, but it wouldn't have anything to do with the newer copy protections that can defeat DVD Decrypter. Many of us have seen cases where the DVD Decrypter fails when being used alone. It is simply due to the software being obsolete because of needed updates. That's all I was saying. I'm sure Scubapete's settings were better than the default settings at the time he wrote the old guide. Nowadays most of those still wanting to use DVD Decrypter use it with RI4M or AnyDVD. With AnyDVD you need to turn of the decryption portion of DVDD and use it only for ripping and let the AnyDVD do the bypassing of copy protections. @ TRAVELMGR Last I checked, the installer program for RI4M 1710 was available at Softpedia. It is an installation program and not an exe file. You only need to download to wherever you keep your downloaded files and run the installation from there. Of course the latest DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink should already be loaded. delete the old RipIt4Me from the ADD Remove in the Control Panel. I'd suggest manually checking to make sure the files are deleted in Program Files. If you have any problems, just let me know and I'll try to help.
I am the newest.Actually I was surfing to find a solution for CRC for myself. There are such interesting and informative views posted here.May I put in my penny's worth.I had spent days trying to copy a movie without result. In my quest I came across DVDFab Platinum.Very skeptically and as a last hope I tried this progamme.Lo an behold it worked.Hope this can help some of the people in this forum. Regards.
I forgot to mention if anyone is using AnyDvd, you have to uninstall it because there is a major conflict between DvdFab Platinum and AnyDvd. Regards.
With RI4MVersion 1.7.0.0 on this computer, I was ready to burn a movie when I got the following message: “You’ve only selected 1 folder, containing just DVD Video files. Does the ‘SHOOTER’ folder represent what should be a ‘VIDEO_TS’ folder in the root directory of the image?(Otherwise, the ‘SHOOTER’ will be visible in the root directory of the image." I do have a total of 10 files including Video_TS, Video_TS.BUP AND Video_TS.IFO files. It seems that I have taken myself out of “One Click” operational mode to having a little something extra to do. I do have the ImgBurn guides, with screenshoots, regarding how to burn from this point. I don’t mind the learning experience for awareness and input, but I’m trying to troubleshoot what I did. I did “Remove” RI4M”(prior version) from the Control Panel as well as ImgBurn, DVD Shrink and DeCrypter. Oh, you did direct me to do just RI4M, but I took it a step(or 2) further to give myself the experience of Removing and (re)installing these items. As the AIO will no longer install, I manually reinstalled in the following order: DVDDC, DVDSshrink, IMGBurn, and last, RI4M ver1700. Harkening back(and who “Harkens” anymore) to Scuba Petes guide, will it be necessary for me to create a Video_ts folder and process my burning in that fashion? Is it at all possible to copy the AIO(with ri4m ver1700), from my laptop to this computer? As always any help from this forum is always appreciated.
