Hi all, first post here, site looked the best i could find so thought I would trying airing my problem with the hope someone has solved it already. Okay so a few weeks ago by HD dies and I lose everything on it! (very sad) got a new pc up and running and started to backup my new dvds as I have always done...dvd decryptor/dvd shrink to encode and burn using nero in the background. So I got all the software back again and burnt a disk to find that it doesn't play on my dvd player, starts to read it then resets and trys to read again and so on never starting. Try the film in my pc and that works fine and everything is there. The only thing I have done differently is get the latest version of nero (v9) and have also tried v8 too. I cannot remember the nero I was on before, but its from a year or so ago at least I would say. So my question is, do the later versions of nero have any compatibility problems for this type of operation? If I go back to nero v6 or whatever it was is this likely to sort the problem?? or is there something else im missing perhaps like specific drivers for my burners perhaps which may have been lost? I am a bit stumped as I have been doing this for years and never had a problem before and adds to the nightmare of losing my entire HD. If anyone has any bright ideas I'd love to know a solution....I cant have the kids or the dog ruining the original dvds, catch and frisby being a favourate game thanks in advance Tony
I have not messed with Nero 9 yet, so i cannot comment on that. Nero 8 does not work well with Shrink. Try burning with Imgburn. Make sure you're using top quality blank discs, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or Sony. Burning at 6x to 8x. EDIT: also, since Shrink hasn't been updated in years you may want to rip with DvdFab Hd Decypter. (see the links in my sig for links)
Just a small point. You say you have a completely new system. Can we assume that your using the same brand and type of media that you used before? and that they played fine in your standalone player? In Decrypter settings there is a booktype function, did your previous burner support this? What is your current burner brand and model? Cheers.
Hey guys, thanks for the responses. Its the same pc as before with the same burners...pioneer 109 and 112 and am using and have always used verbatim disks. Also same dvd player. I think its probably nero thats causing the problem, its the only factor thats changed, I just assumed nero9 would be great and am still confused as to why this would be a problem being the latest all singing all dancing version? Maybe it somehow blocks the burning using shrink so you have to use nero instead? I think I will have a go at reverting to nero6 (if it were 6 I had before). I do have dvdfab and various others I just found decryptor/shrink tackled most things i threw at it with good results. Maybe I will get Imgburn too as this seems to be pretty popular with you guys here. has no one tried nero9 much then?
As of yet, i have not. Nero 8 presented compatability issues so i've stayed away. Been using Imgburn for a long time and don't see much of a reason to change that at this point.
Nero9 has been given a general thumbs down across the board from reviewers and users alike... nero have been very selective with the truth in their advertising literature.. taking quotes out of context and in edited form from generally bad reviews to make it sound like everything is great. Expect a backlash from the computer press about it soon. (there is a topic all about it elsewhere on the site= here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/712150#4337726 http://forum.my.nero.com/index.php?showtopic=1012 http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R31VJXGXX9802 http://cnet.nytimes.com/music-and-video/nero-9/4852-3669_7-33310101.html http://reviews.cnet.com/music-and-recording/nero-9/4852-3669_7-33310101.html Need I say more.. AVOID like your life depended on it!! 8 has excellent HD capture capabilities, but otherwise is also poor having compatibility problems with long established applications like shrink... Overall Nero sucks.. there are better free applications available which make nero a redundant and obsolete lump of expensive bloatware. From the reviews it doesn't even seem worth the effort needed to steal it to try... So I'm not going to bother. Why is everybody pussyfooting around... scared Nero will come and fiddle??
I'll link this thread to another similar one here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/712150
Beat you to it my friend.. My top link You have linked it back so we have a nice loop going on... Why not make a Nero9 sticky and lets have done with all the noobish questions we are going to get from people who pay before reading the reviews and user comments.
Oops i'd missed that. Good idea, i'll have a mooch in the Shrink sticky and i'll see what's going on in the Nero forum as i haven't even been in there in a year or few.
This is an old problem that started with Nero 8. Nero changed the program commands enough that it no longer works as a supported burner with Shrink. Nero said they were not responsible for supporting Shrink. Since there will probably not be any more Shrink updates, no help from that direction. Best to forget the later versions of Nero for automatically burning with Shrink. Burning manually will work when the correct burn function is selected. If you insist on using Shrink, get the exe file to upgrade Shrink to use ImgBurn as a supported burner. It's free and does an excellent job. Check with Binkie. I forgot where the downloads are.
Thanks everybody for taking the time to respond. I went back to nero 6 and everything is fine as some people had predicted. (stupid nero8/9) I have got imgburn so will give that a try also. cheers.
aopeck you said "I think its probably nero thats causing the problem, its the only factor thats changed, I just assumed nero9 would be great and am still confused as to why this would be a problem being the latest all singing all dancing version?" I bought Nero 8 and never liked it so after my hard drive crashed I went back to Nero 7. Nero 7 and DVD Shrink are the best combination for me. And, I wouldn't be without image burn - you can do so much with that program. Anymore, I really don't like to get the new and improved of anything - they just keep taking things we like away.
I still have Nero 7; but don't use it. I use Imgburn almost exclusively for my burning. Occassionally, i'll use DvdFab's VSO. Not often though.
so have you setup imgburn so it burns automatically with shrink like mine does with nero? do you have to remove nero first for this? I have also just got a new writer with my new pc I have just bought which has imagescribe thing where it burns the name onto the disk too, but i noticed this was nero software for this, will installing this give me the same nero problems as before seeing as its the new (crappy) breed of nero and not the working version (v06) i always used?
The Nero software that came with your LightScribe burner is where I started to have all of my problems. Took forever to get that off to get back to Nero 7. Go to SureThing - their software is the best for LightScribe.
