DVD Shrink/Nero burning failure

I'm hoping someone out there will be able to help here! DVD Shrink/Nero will not burn successfully any more. I have been able to burn in the past, but all of a sudden everything is failing. I have a LG GSA-4163B burner to which I have just updated the firmware to the latest version. I had iTunes installed and I thought that was causing the problem. I have uninstalled it but still not having any luck. When I uninstalled iTunes and rebooted I got the following message box called NeroCheck:
The lowerfilter or upperfilter registry key for CD-Rom was containing incorrect drivers. It has been corrected. You must reboot your computer in order the changes are effective. Until then, you may not be able to access your CD-Rom drives. I reboot and the message goes away. I still can't burn though. I'm using Sony DVD-R media and have burned at least 30 times successfully before. [bold]Please help!![/bold]

They should all be in DMA Mode. Go into Device Manager and uninstall the DVD-Rom drive ( right click ) and re-boot and let Windows re-install properly. This is not that critical of an error

You don't have enough memory, close all proggies in the background or add more.

I am not that worried about you DVD-Rom not being in DMA as it will still read the disk and we are not writing to it. Hopefully the instructions below will help. If you get lost that is OK come on back and we will be happy to assist you

1. Change target size:

In Shrink go to Edit> Preferences> Target DVD size> blue box - if you click on it you will see the word Custom. Make sure that is in the box. Now to the right of that change the number to 4300.

2.BookType:

In Shrink Backup> Burn setting> down at the bottom make sure there is not a check mark there

I tried what was suggested below and have uninstalled/reinstalled Nero and still no luck. Bought some different media (Fuji DVD-RW) to try (Werbatim was not available). I did manage to get a little bit farther this time though. It actually started to burn the movie to the DVD, but stopped after a couple minutes. I tried to close some processes in antoher attempt before this with no luck either. Considerig I have burned 25-30 times successfully before,would memory be an issue all of a sudden? I am including the log below. I noticed that the hardware message is still in the log. Do I need to get another cable, or could my burner be done in? Thaks for all the help!

It is still showing Medium problem I have done movies w/ 256 ram( a long time ago) back when you just had the "Big 3" to use. 256 is the bare minimum you need and you have 512. I am going to PM Creaky and see if he can look at this and advise you on what to do. Nero Log's are his specialty. LOL

Hello again!
Well, I've updated Nero, bought some Verbatim DVD+R, got DMA turned on for my DVD-ROM drive, defraged and I'm still getting nowhere. I did notice that just before Shrink/Nero errored, it said something like "Focus or tracking error" and then stopped. I noticed the ATAPI drivers you said that should show up with the DMA fix didn't. Could this be part of the problem? If so, how can I load them? I'm worried it is my burner gone kaput! Here is my latest log...Thanks for your help...BigD

It is stating it is the Hardware. You might have to return or better replace the DVD burner

Looks like a problem w/ the burner. You might need to call computer manuf. or if you can look inside the case make sure all the cables are firmly seated. Try also cleaning the lens of the burner

DMA: Direct Memory Access transfers data from main memory to a device without going through CPU. If you have DMA enabled the data transfer data is a lot quicker

also i have burned many dvd's in the past without any problems,........do you think it's my dvd burner............i am thinking of buying an external one.......can you recommend any................that may solve the problem????

I think the only thing we have not done is take a can of compressed air and blow into the unit . Heck the laser could be off and to repair it would cost more than a new one. If this is an internal unit take it out and let a friend try doing a movie using the unit. Make sure he takes his unit out and make sure that you have the pins in the back properly setup up to master or slave. If it works in his unit the it is something in the cable , Mobo. Could be a solder joint.

If you want and external drive I would go w/ a Plextor or Pioneer as both are excellent drives
Look at the Plextor PX-716UF but I must warn you these drives are not cheap. Most externals are 50% or more higher in price and the internal drives. You can also get refurbed units and you might call Plextor and see if they have any

The link you provided did not work as it gave server down error. Looked at Znet's review which was good. The only thing I can see is the burner can not do Dual Layer Disks. The Plextor can. The Plextor is going to be more but it is probably one of the best external's IMHO
