    Katrinaa,
Using the conversion rate that is about right as It is expensive. If you keep looking then look for one that does Dual Layer burns. You mght also look at the Lite-ons as some members here have good reports on them. Have a good time looking and if you have any problems after you get the burner just start a new thread and list the problems

I recently bought this same LG GSA-4163B DVD Writer. I'm using
the Nero Express burner software OEM that came with this writer,
so I'm pretty sure this Nero should work fine with this DVD Writer.

I was able to burn several data DVDs before, and recently it
started to fail writing also eventhough I used the same blank
DVD brand. I'm getting this Lead-In failure message and it conks
out in the middle of the burn. I've wasted 5 blank DVDs so far
and I don't know what on earth happened to this writer. It's
working just fine before, and suddenly I start getting this write
    failures.

Reading the posts in this thread having the same issue, could this
LG DVD Writer model be a lemon that's why they're selling this
    writer this cheap?

    Pekchuwi,
It could be a lemon or it does not like the blank media you are using. Try Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blank media. You should always be particular about the blank media you use as a lot of the media out there is crap

First of all thank you to Mike and Creaky for there help with my problems a few weeks ago.

Pekchuwi: I had the same problem. Had the burner for 6 months, working perfectly, then all of a sudden nothing would burn. Took it back to the store I bought it and exchanged it for a new one. Unfortunately I had to get the same burner, so hopefully this one will last longer! I wonder if these burners have a defect that causes them to crap out after a short time?? My media has always been Sony DVDs which I thought were pretty good, but I have now switched to Verbatim...just to be safe. Good luck and try all the solutions suggested by Mike and Creaky, they were really helpful!

    Car.mike ,

You are right, the blank DVD media I've been using are LEMON. The
level of quality varies from disc to disc evenif they are the
    same brand.

From where I'm living, these generic DVD blank media are so cheap
(10 cents a crap) that's why it's so tempting to buy them.
Sometimes you get lucky, most of the times you won't. When I started
buying those expensive ones, the writing error goes away.

Also, I noticed that when a DVD blank disc says its speed rating
is 1x-8x, you have to burn it at 8x. If you burn it at a lower
speed, it will result in a burn failure.

    Pekchuwi,
You are correct as quality does matter especially in doing Movies. Use the cheap disks for other Data. LOL

Keep burning and come back and help giving advice to others.

I have been using Nero and DVD Shrink in different combinations for quite some time now.I have tried other decoders and software to shrink the DVD down to size.
Do not set the size in DVD shrink just set it to 5.
Acouple of questions. Are you writing from the hard drive after you have shrunk. It would be helpfull if you gave the actual settings chosen tfor DVD shrink and also the settings for Nero to use during the burn process.
Just one tip at the moment the burn should be done in DVD high compatibility mode.

Hi, I hope it's ok to post my nero log here.
I have a very similar problem.
Have tried a few of the less involved things mentioned.
Am trying to update Nero now.

One interseting thing is the drive reads, copies, plays DVD's just wont burn.
The stack of failed DVD's all appear as CD's on the drives icon in my computa.
All other DVD media reads fine.
I have no disks left to try anything more.

Any type of blank DVD inserted into the drive shows "CD-Drive" when I open the disk?!?!?!?

    Wierd man!

As I say, it reads anything fine...it just don't want to know about blank DVD disks :(

Is there anything that can be done before it disappears out the window? :)

    victa2,
Welcome to the forum. It would have been nice if you had started a new thread as this one is getting a little long but we will see if we can help you.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
I have downloaded ALL 85Mb of Nero updates.
I have all windows updates appart from service pack 2.
Can never get that 75Mb down without a disconnection.....

I have suspected that problems to do with WinASPI and sony handycam software may have been contributing to my problems.
Although I had never experienced burn failure like this before, my DVD drive was never the same after I uninstalled the handycam software.

The first thing I downloaded from Nero was an updated WIASPI.DLL driver.

After installing updates, I managed a sucsessful burn at slightly less than max speed and size in Nero.

    In DVD shrink however........
Tried again and failed at the encoding stage due to low memory ( page file too low or something ).

    At least I didn't waste a disk :)

I am looking for RAM chip to go up to 512 or 1Gb.

    Thanks.

    Your sugestions were very helpful.

    Hi,
It looks like you are doing one of two things. First of all it could be that you are trying to use DVD -R when your burner only does DVD +R. This could be why it sees them as cd's.
Also when you are choosing the drive to burn with it should give two choices for the drive, make shure you choose the DVD and not the CD one. I am still unsure why you are not using DVD Shrink to burn your disks as it will size the files correctly without using a specified file size.

    Lol23,
    Welcome to the forum,

    1. Firmware is up to date and that is good
    2. Physical memory : 511MB (523760kB)
    Free physical memory: 74MB (76712kB)
    Memory in use : 85 %

You have some programs that are using up the computers resources. Try cutting off all non-essential programs

    3. 13:44:03 #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 277
Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB)
Last address to be written: 2286111 (508:01.36, 4465MB)

You need to set the Target size to 4300 and Custom as you are burning too close to the outer rim.

    4. 13:58:38 #71 SPTI -1135 File SCSIPassThrough.cpp, Line 306

The burner does not like the blank media you are using

    5. Disc Manufacturer: TTG02
Those are TDK blank media and you need to try better quality disks like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, Maxell

    @Uruz07 -

    - EDIT OUT your serial number

    - think your firmware's up to date

    - very nice media

    - see next comment

    - InCD is Nero's 'packet writing software', uninstall Nero then uninstall completely via Nero's Clean Tools, then reinstall Nero WITHOUT installing InCD
