this seems funny.... i closed all programs and my computer used up 92% memory??? i have minimal startup programs and scanned lately for spyware or viruses.... weird.... I also changed my UDMA cable so that my HD and DVD-Writer share the same UDMA cable... still it failed... T_T

yup, DMA not being ON will drag any other devices' speed down to PIO mode, you need to sort out it's DMA

I think nero 7 still having some bugs in it. Why not switch back to 6.0.6.18. I got this problem like you have before and I uninstall nero 7 and did a complete clean by using nero cleaning tool and switch back to nero 6.0.6.18 and everything back to normal again.
Not all new program is compatible. I think nero 7 does not work well with dvd shrink. Dvd burners sometimes are also a issue. I got a dvd burner imoge which doesnt like nero at all and simply wont recognise nero. I believe not all new programmes are good in fact some old programmes are even better than the new ones. Dvd shrink and clonedvd are some of the examples. However, we all learnt from our mistakes. Dvd media also play a part. Well crap dvd media you will get crap result lol....
