I am new to this. I have "backed up" about five DVD's with no problem, but this time..... I used DVD Shrink to "shrink" a DVD to the hard drive. Before burning onto a blank DVD I tried to watch the movie from my computer (I always do this because I am tired of making "coasters"). It "flies" through the first four files: VIDEO_TS, VTS_01_0, VTS_01_1, VTS_02_0. Did I do something wrong?

Is this an ISO file you are watching or are you trying to watch the DVD parts from the folders created from DVD Shrink?

When you back up to your HD, Shrink creates a VIDEO_TS and a AUDIO_TS folder (nothing is in the Audio). If you want to watch the movie from the beginning, direct your player to the VIDEO_TS folder, not the files within.

That is good to know, what about if you created the movie in ISO format using DVD Shrink rather than the Audio & Video TS folders? Can you watch the ISO movie?

@ im_eten. Just about all my rips are in File mode. I don't use ISO, and so I can't answer that question right now. I'm curious, though, and will try after I get a file out of RB-CCE (3 hrs).

@ jmcole. What player are you using that tells you what files you are "flying" through?

You can watch the ISO file, if you have some type of program that allows you to mount a virtual drive. Mount the virtual drive and then load the ISO image.
I use Nero., but there are several others available.

OK. I watch the movie on the computer before I burn them because I'm tired of making "coasters". If the movies that I "Shrink" play OK on the computer, then I burn them. BUT,,,,, this movie "flies" through the first four files: VIDEO_TS, VTS_01_0, VTS_01_1, VTS_02_0. Any suggestions on why this is happening?

Let's find out if you are having a problem with Shrink or the source DVD. Download DVD Decrypter from AD, and rip the files with it. You can then try to play the files directly from the folder to see what happens.

    @jmcole...
Thanks for referring me to your Decrypter post. There was some useful info there that applies here, but to discuss that thread here spreads the fix process over two threads. 'Can't do that.

Most recently we helped an AD visitor that had posted 3 different threads with what they thought was 3 different problems. After a bit, I was able to convince the visitor that all these problems had a root cause ... and that they should settle in on just one thread. And, we did solve their problem with a systematic approach. It is counterproductive to use a shotgun approach, and if you are willing to settle into this thread, we will get at the root of your problem ... and then everything will work. Are you willing to do this? If so, let me know, OK?

Good ... we'll get you fixed up.

FIrst, it looks like your Decrypter log identified CMC magnetics media. This is one of the worst media choices for movies. OK for data, though. Our app is special. There is really only one choice that is "guaranteed" and that is the Ritek/Ridata brand. It doesn't make sense to explain why in this post, because there is plenty of info on AD about this. RIdata has to be ordered online, and if you are USA, go to www.meritline.com for the best prices and free shipping.

OK, we are going to check things like ASPI, DMA, memory/usage, etc., one step at a time. FIrst ASPI. Do you have Nero ? If not, download Nero InfoTools

    http://www.nero.com/en/632181889268729.html .

Let me know when this is installed. Also, what OS do you have, and what are your CPU, memory, and HD specs?

...I have a bit more time to take this a little further. When InfoTools is installed, you will see different tabs.

On the Drive (not Drivers) tab it will tell you the firmware version. Please post this.

The ASPI tab gives you the ASPI files. ASPI's tell your reader/burner what to do. Sometimes they get corrupted, or outdated. Post the files & dates. Also, advise if there is a green bar present.

The Configuration tab shows how all the drives are set up. Please post what is on the Primary Channel, and if DMA is on, and what is on the Secondary Channel, and if DMA is on.

    Hey...good work!!!

You likely have an ASPI layer problem. Let's fix it. DL ForceASPI 1.8:
    http://forceaspi18.w.interia.pl/

If this link is down, go here: http://wombleintheuk.tripod.com/Final/ForceASPI/ForceASPI.htm
Follow the simple instructions. They begin with running KILLASPI.You will also need to download the CHKASPI.exe file that is further down the page. Run this after you install the ASPI. It will confirm a proper install.

After you do the CHKASPI, also go back to InfoTools and see if the bar is now green. If it is, it would be a good time to re-run a burn test. If it works, fine, but we aren't through yet.

BTW, your drives are configured OK., which is good.
