I recently updated my dvd burner with an LG gh20 which is SATA and connected to my hp pavillion 750c through a pci SATA adapter (SYBA via 150r)

The burner reads dvds and burns CDRs but when I try to shrink a dvd, it does back up the disk, but then during burning it a) tries to burn 18x on a 16x media (TDK) and b) give me a "reset" error as described below.

I am new to SATA and as such it may be the connection...any help is appreciated!!

    computer:
    hp 750c, 512mb ram, 1.8 g CPU

    here is the error log:

Here are some things to try.

First you have to slow your burn speed down. 18X is too fast. Set the burn speed to 4X or 8X, especially for the low quality CMC Magnetics media you're using. There's a Burn Speed tab on the window after you click Backup! in DVD Shrink.

Get rid of Nero InCD. It can be a trouble maker.

It looks like you installed Nero 7 over the top of Nero 6 at some point. Run the Nero Clean Tool and remove everything Nero. Be sure to keep your Nero serial number written down for the reinstall. Download and install the latest version of Nero 7 without InCD.

    http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-cleantools.html
    Nero 7.10.1.2: http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-nero7-update.php

In the future I'd try to get some better media like Verbatim.

It may be the PCI SATA interface card causing the problem. I've never used one before myself. I might have been tempted to ditch the CD drive in favor of an IDE DVD burner instead of messing with the SATA card. Sometimes burners don't like being on SATA RAID interface which is what yours seems to be.

Try creating an ISO image file from Shrink. Then try burning that with ImgBurn (free) to disk and see if that makes any headway. That'll at least isolate Nero from the process and a possible cause.

    http://www.imgburn.com

Also make sure your SATA cable from the PCI interface card and the burner is firmly seated at both ends.

Have you tried burning a CD yet by chance?

You might go into Device Manager and see if there are any other communication protocols like DMA available with this SATA interface. If there's a utility program with the SATA card you may need to look at that as well.
