Hi. I hope someone out there can help me. I tried to copy and burn a dvd, like I normally do. Dvd Shrink would not finish Analyzing b/c a screen came up and this is what it said: "Dvd Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Failed to read file E:\, Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check). I have no early clue what this all means. Can someone help me? I hope so. Thanks, Katt
hi, it's probably a movie that DVD Shrink can't handle, DVD Shrink hasn't been updated for a long time and won't be updated in the future, and newer movies have encryptions that Shrink is no longer equipped to deal with. What i would recommend is the awesome and very simple DVDFab Decrypter (free) from http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm DVDFab is currently at version 3.0.4.0, use that to rip the dvd to your hard disc then use DVD Shrink on the files output by DVDFab (so Shrink is doing almost the same job, it just needs external help with the encryptions). ps always look for updates to DVDFab, at least once a week or certainly whenever you next hit a dvd that gives you problems..
hi. thanks for the big help. is dvdfab an easy program to use? i hope so. i am not computer savvy yet. lolol thanks, katt p.s. after i have the movie on my hard disk, then do i just open up dvd shrink and find the movie and use the program the same way as i normally would have?
you're welcome. as to DVDFab it's incredibly simple (a reason why i use it), and absolutely, once it's done it's thing, just point DVD Shrink to the folder where DVDFab worked it's magic
DVDFab is great. But, don't forget, you might need to run it's output through VOBBlanker before using Shrink. There could be some bogus files put in there to block copying. Blanker will clean it up! I normally use: DVD Decrypter, Shrink, ImgBurn. I switch to: DVDFab, VOBBlanker, Shrink, ImgBurn when Shrink encounters a problem. Never fails to work and it's FREE (easy, too).
i tried the dvdfab and one screen came up and it said "cannot read". it is on retry right now and i am watching the program to see if it will finish. will let you know. katt
Im sorry, but i quit the dvdfab program b/c it said it would take up to 4 hours to finish. that is too long for me. thanks so much for the help though. i will keep the program in case i need to use it and if i have enough time.katt
sounds like something else is going on here. let's (re)start here - http://www.burningbits.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2986 by checking your DMA settings...
It should NOT take that long. How fast is your burner? Is your firmware uptodate? What's your processor speed? How much Ram do you have? DMA should be on, NOT Pio. Do not try to do other things on your computer while processing your movie. Example. Just did a movie. Took about 6-7 minutes to rip. Couple of minutes thru VOBBlanker. 15-20 seconds for Shrink to Analyse. Another 4-5 minutes to create the ISO. Finally about 14 minutes to burn to disk at 4X speed. That's less than 30 minutes in Total. Use good quality media, burn at half the rated speed of the blank. Something just is not right. No matter what you do, you probably need to find out what it is, as it will effect other areas on your system too!
Hi. I use Dvd Shrink with AnyDvd and I have Nero SmartStart. I usually burn and copy a dvd in about 20-25 minutes tops. My DMA settings are correct. I dont usually download a movie onto my hard drive at all. I was just doing it today to see how it worked but I thot 4 hours was a bit too long.
I have Nero 6.6.0.18 but don't really use it. I don't have and have never used AnyDVD. What version of Nero is "SmartStart"? There might be a conflict between your programs? If so, that could be a problem. Someone else would know about that more than me. You could try uninstalling AnyDVD and Nero as long as you have the ability to reinstall them if you choose. Make notes of all install key codes. If you go this route be sure to use the Nero Clean Tool (available from their site). After uninstalling try the free combos that I mentioned previously. See what happens. You can always go back to your original stuff. If you go back with Nero, 6.6.0.18 is probably the best version of Nero in the 6 series. Most bug free and it does coexist with the combos I have noted. There is a 7 series Nero that is good, but I don't know which it is. Other versions of Nero are BUGGY. Post what happens.
@katt There could be few issues here, (1) new encrypted protections that DVD Shrink can't handle (i.e. RipGuard or ARccOS, Puppetlock). (2) the disc is really dirty or badly scratched. Give the guides below a try and see how it goes. NOTE: all tools are FREE included in the guides. So just read and follow them carefully and you'll be able to rip and backup any DVDs around the world. DVDFAB Decrypter +DVD Shrink + ImgBurn guide (all free) for newbies. Simply skip #2 VobBlanker, unless DVD Shrink has encountered an error and can not continue, or unless you're an advanced user and know where/what to delete/blank out. Rip any DVDs with RipIt4Me +DVD Shrink + ImgBurn guide for newbies. Best of luck!!
Hi tried to copy Miami Vice with shrink didnt work so used DVD Fab and loaded on to hard drive I think its too large ( 5.8)and hasnt been compressed yet. I tried to open file DVD fab decrypter with shrink and it said it couldnt find the file specified. Totally new to this can any 1 help, thanks
@bobsters - you sure you pointed DVD Shrink to the correct folder (output by DVDFab). if some files are there and Shrink is still unhappy try using DVDFab to rip the entire disc (ie i'm assuming you did movie only in DVDFab, so try ripping the entire disc), then try pointing Shrink to the output folder again
Hi creaky, Not really sure or computer savy yet. i swapped for another copy of Miami Vice and put it through DVD fab and loaded on to hard drive ( movie only )I then brought up shrink and shrink went through the process of analize and encoding the movie, took a little time. i then opened dvd decrypter and burnt the movie. Am i doing the process correctly ? Hope I have explained this procedure clearly, thanks for your reply.
I am having this same problem where it says that it cannot continue, but i am using movies i have already burned. I have burned from a copy before and i didnt have any problem, but it keeps doing it to me now. If anyone can help i would REALLY APPRECIATE it
