Sorry guys i am the original new kid on the block. Just bough the Sony DVD dual formats DVD recorder. i have files labelled "Vob files, these chang eto video_ts files. at the final stage - it ask me to back up - it encodes everything but it does back up straight to my DVD writer. Must i use other software to finnish ? I have record DX and the other bundles software that comes with the DVD writer . whats best to finnish the job ? thanks in advance
You must use a burning software, like Record Now Deluse. Burn in data mode, close TOC and burn inside a VIDEO_TS folder.
Hi Orpheus i'm sure i did this. I loaded all files as a Video_Ts files. DVD shrink asked me to use other software to complete the task. I thouht that DVD shrink handles everything from begining to end (Burn). By the wa i have a sony external DVD dual writer and i'm trying to use the software provided to complete the job. I burnt all files to a DVD - veritas record dx software. What do you mean , burn within the files ? Sorry to sound so thick, these processes are getting on my nerves Thanks again
ALL the files produced by Dvd Shrink need to be placed into a folder called VIDEO_TS. The name NEEDS to be in capitals as above.... Dvd Shrink can do everything except burn, which is really quite unfortunate as an implemented burning engine would cap it all quite nicely........I wouldn't be TOO surprised if this is somewhere in the pipeline.... Recordnow DX will do the job, have a look at http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/recordnowmax.htm This guide is based on the Recordnowmax version 4.50, but is the same for the DX version...... It looks like Oriphus has been on the ale, or more than likely up late....LOL
right lads and lasses, to shrink a dvd from dvd 9 to dvd 5 use the latest version of dvd shrink, its dvd shrink v3.0 beta 5, it will rip and shrink any dvd at the same time,when its finished you will have the menus,movie and extras shrunk to fit exactly onto a dvd r , no problems guranteed , its the best thing since sliced bread . then all i do is then burn it with nero 6, using the video ts folder, simple.
Help i done the folowing. Got all data from harddrive and shrunk it using dvd shrink. File size was 4.6 gb. No probs i've got a 4.7 disc. the VIDEO_TS were then encoded and re-saved to a new file. Used Record DX to burn files - all burned to disc, would play in my PS2 - disc was region free Can anybody give me an idiots guide steps 1 to 10 on what i should do precisely. I'm burning and wasting discs at an alarming rate and going of this whole DVD burn thing. Why does DVD shrink say my files are too big at 4.6 gb to put onto a 4.7 gb disk. When i encode it takes ages. I take it, that it is these files that are then burn onto CD. Why can't me PS2 even read the disc ? Please help, this is doing my head it big time
4.6Gb is actually too big.... What you have to remember is that ANY burning program actually has overheads and requires to write them to the disc - which takes up room.... Have you checked out the guides at http://www.chrismccann.co.uk as these are pretty much spot on..... The recordnow guide was written by me and if you follow it step by step, there should not be any problems...... What brand media are you using? PS2's can be little quirky.... All you do is burn the VIDEO_TS folder as data in recordnow. I rip with Dvd Decrypter, compress in Dvd2one and burn using Recordnow DX - my process takes approx 1 hour - I only do the movie..... What was your new file called, the one you stated after you encoded?

I've been going within the VIDEO_TS files and adding each file to data-- silly me I currently don't have any ripping software. I load up to harddrive, compress in DVDshrink the try to burn using Record DX process seems to take ages. What was your new file called, the one you stated after you encoded? I re-named it example, but think that it ha to be Video_TS I'm trying to rip a previously ripped DVD, will i have to encode again as the files are currently stored under Video_Ts files. Forgive me I have had to read your last post several times............ Dvd Shrink is OK for ripping so use that.... Common mistake to add the files in data using Recnow.... When you do the 'backup' process in Dvd Shrink then ponit the proggy to save the files in a folder called VIDEO_TS, then you just add the COMPLETE folder into data on Recnow.....I think you have grasped that now, from what you posted...... BTW we have all done it...... What do you mean 'ages' in terms of actual time? I only do the movie portion, therefore in Dvd Decrypter I only rip the movie IFO and VOBS. Therefore Dvd2one is only compressing a very minimal amount, rather than the complete disc.....this is also an option within Dvd2one.... I think it is because you are ripping the complete disc and compressing. I have : 1.1Ghz cpu 384Mb SDRAM If I do a full disc with Dvd Shrink then it takes me about 1Hr 30mins - 2 Hrs but it WILL depend on the total size of the disc...... That is why I use Dvd2one.... Is this ALREADY on a dvd? If so, then there is no need to copy, you can use the wizard in Recnow to make an exact copy - disc to disc...... REMEMBER - the folder to burn AND should have ALL the files in is VIDEO_TS (in Capitals) PS2 can be quirky, but you do not need it chipped in order to play dvd backup movies.....only games......and obviously the chip will have no relevance on media..... I use the Ritek GO4 dye type - branded as Traxdata and have no issues......These are what I would recommend...... However I do not recommend to use the PS2 as a standalone dvd player (although yes that is what it is designed to do) if you are going to play backups on it as this will SERIOUSLY degrade the laser.......

That is why I use DVD2One...." baabaa, what don't you like about doing movie-only with Le Shrink? An average movie requires about 20 minutes on my AMD XP1700+. The more compression used the longer it takes. No compression is almost as fast as ripping with Decrypter. A big advantage I find (as a movie-only backuper too), is DVD Shrink ability to compress any part of the movie at any level of compression (the level being only limited by the compression algorithm). In its simplest use, it means you can use "Still Pictures" on the end-credits (which has enable me a few times not to have to use compression on the rest of the movie). Remember you can also gain some more quality by cropping the movie studio stuff at the begining of the movie. All this will result in a seamless (no gap) playback, as it is a recently discovered trick. Man, your sounding like my mother, and bustin my balls............LOL...... Some movies are quite large and Dvd2one kicks it out in less time than Dvd Shrink.... I do understand what you are saying but there actually is NO quality difference on my TV's/standalones..... I also like to keep my PC VERY clean of programs I do not use regularly.......as reminants of past programs (dll's etc) remain in the background as uninstalls etc DO NOT fully remove everything..... I do know about the little tricks you can do as I started out using Ifoedit etc...... But the structuring and compression rates now do not hold any sort of challenge so I rip with Dvd Decrypter - 8 mins, compress with Dvdone - 20 mins and burn with Recordnow DX - 15 mins..... All done in less than 45 mins........ I do use Dvd Shrink to have a play with episodes etc......but not the movies..... Thanks for trying to convince me, the info you listed has been very infromative and I will probably have a deeper look but my method is flawless for me.........L8trs.....

DVD Shrink doesn't require installation, as all you need is to unzip the files and run it from the .exe. The only things that needs removal when uninstalling is its folder, the "Recent Files", "Recent Folders" lists from the registry, and the hidden folder "C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data\DVD Shrink 3.0" where the Deep Analysis files are kept. I'll be back...
I use DVD Shrink Beta ver.5 to backup all my movies which include even the newest ones. All you have to do is reauthor and drag and drop only the main movie file to your new file, uncheck all sound files except 6channel and any other extras and your compression rate usually will be more than adequate. Then hit backup. I then use CloneDVD to burn the VIDEO_TS file created and everyone comes out perfect. My burner is Optorite and I use Fuji DVD-R. They all play well in my Panasonic DVD-F65 Muti-disc player.

I am gonna give you some advice now.....LOL Rather than copy/paste and adding quotation marks you can quote a statement using the quote feature at the top of your reply page.....
