For some reason the DVDs I burn keep skipping - some to the point where I get the "Unable to read disc" error on my DVD player. I've tried running them on my neighbor's DVD player and the same thing keeps happening (oddly, they work just fine on my computer's DVD drive). Also, they seem to skip in random locations on the disc, so it doesn't seem to be an issue where just the edge or center of the disc is bad. I'm burning with: HP dvd 740 lightscribe drive Verbatim lightscribe DVD+R 4.7GB discs Nero 7 OR Clone DVD (newest version)
Try burning at 4X or less to see if that improves quality. Poor media, fast burning speed, out of date firmware and marginal burner operation are among the major causes for these type of problems.
I guess I forgot to mention that I've tried burning at 2x, 4x, and 8x and it happens regardless of whether I try to make a copy of a DVD (a legal copy, mind you) or whether I burn my homemade video files from my PC. I'm really, really, stumped.
Yes, they both support DVD+Rs. SOMETIMES the disc will play flawlessly on the players, but it's kinda rare...seems like it has a 25% success rate of doing so. However, if the DVD has skipping issues (75% of the time) it will never play perfectly in the players, just on my computer. I think Nero handles booktyping for you (isn't the default set to DVD-rom?), so I haven't messed with it.
