Using DVD decrypter and DVD shrink, I have been able to backup my DVD, however the hard drive of my computer is now registering as nearly full, even though I have erased the ISO files createdd by using these programs. I erased the ISO files by first draging them to the waste basket which then said 'this file is too big for the waste basket, shall we erase it completely?' or words to that effect, so I said 'YES!' but the space is still being used somehow, and I now don't have enough HD space to backup anything else. I have checked for the files using the search function of windows, no ISO files can be found, and I have also looked for the files using sequoia (LOVE that program) and they aren't there, but the space is being used up by something.... I run XP on a Sony Vaio PCG 8QM. Any ideas? Many thanks.
be sure to empty the recycle bin. then do a defrag, and watch the bottom of the screen to see what its moving and compressing. maybe that will give u an idea of whats going on. i like to use ccleaner, u can find this at download.com , when i delete files i usually just right clik on the file then select delete, instead of drag and drop (drag and hope).
Thanks for the suggestions Gamename, but the recycle bin is definitely empty, I have defragged, but the space is still "used" - so I presume it is too late to use a cleaning program, and in any case, I can't find the files I have removed. When I do a 'search' for any ISO files using the search for files etc program in Windows, no ISO files can be found at all. It's mystifying. I'm wondering if it is some sort of bug either with my model of computer, or the way Windows is interacting with the DVD shrink and Decrpyter programs - has anyone else ever heard of this? I've googled as many applicable phrases as I can think of, but haven't found anything.
If your using Norton AV, right click the recycle bin and empty "Norton protected files", then I use the option "Purge all" when it comes up.
Maybe the temp files for the isos have not been deleted. Check the size of your temp folders. I guess this is the answer to the disk space problem. Have a great year y'all!!
Thanks View_ro3 and Beastgre, it turned out to be the Norton solution after all. As a new progrmam for me, I had no idea it would 'protect' things quite as well as it did.... very happy to have the space back, and am grateful for your help. Frozz.
