I'm wanting to learn to use MeGUI to convert DVD to AVC for my 5.5g iPod. It supports H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Low-Complexity Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.

I've read the guides, but the movie will not play on my iPod. I can add it to my iTunes , but when I try to transfer it to the iPod, it tells me that it can't play that type of file. Though I can use SharePod to transfer it to the iPod and it plays fine. The only thing is that it doesn't appear to have chapters. According to Quicktime, here are the properties of the movie:

    Format: H.264, 640 x 272 Millions
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
    Movie FPS: 23.98
    Data Rate: 1.01 mbits/sec

Here are the steps I take:

    1. Rip DVD to hard drive.

    2. Open MeGUI & select DV2 creator from the tools menu. Select correct VOB file & audio track to demux. Click Queue & close DV2 Project Creator window.

    3. Click Queue in the MeGUI window, select the new job, & click start. Window pops up asking if I want to create new worker, I click OK, & OK again to accept name Worker 1.

    4. After DV2 Creator is done, use ChapterXtractor to save chapters.

    5. Select AviSynth Script Creator from tools menu & select the d2v file.
In the Input DAR it says ITU "16:9 NTSC (1.822784)" Select Auto Crop. Now top box has 60 & bottom box has 64. Resize is checked and says 640 x 272.

    6. In the Filters tab click Analyse.

    When done analysing:

    Source Type- Progressive
    Deinterlace is not selected
    Resize Filter- Lanczos (Sharp)
    Noise Filter is not checked
    Mpeg2 Deblocking is not checked
    Colour Correction is checked

    7. Click Save and save as Movie.avs

    8. Back in the MeGUI window, select the Input tab. The Codec is x264 & File Format is MP4. Select PD-iPod 5.5G for the profile. Select the correct Audio Input & Audio Profile is NDAAC-LC-96Kbps. Codec is ND AAC & Extension is MP4-ACC with a delay of 0 ms.

    9. I Enqueue both the video and audio. In Queue tab click Start to start encoding.

    10. When done encoding, I use the Muxer to mux the audio and video, and add the chapter file.

Have I done something wrong? Why are there no chapters? Why would Quicktime tell me that iPod can't play the file, but it can be transferred with SharePod? I have the latest version of Quicktime.

Also, are there any changes to the steps I took that anyone could recommend to me? I left everything to the default settings except I used Autocrop. Would anyone recommend that I change anything else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've searched and haven't been able to find a solution. Maybe I'm overlooking it? If so, could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks again.

Within iTunes, have you tried right-mouse clicking on the video and select the 'convert to ipod' (or something like that) option?
