    Hello,
I have The Sopranos seasons on DVDs for all of the seasons and I would like to convert them to xvid (avi) files so that I can put them on my external hard drive. I looked at multiple guides to help me with it by using AutoGK and I had problems when I hit that step. With a regular dvd with only one video (movie, etc) it is easy to choose what Video_TS file to use and such but with these DVDs, there are at least 3 different episodes on each DVD and so it is quite hard to figure out which one is which. I tried to load the files in WMP but that frustrated me and so it would be helpful if somebody could tell me how to distinguish the VTS files between each of them (a little confusing, but should make sense). Also, would DVDFab also help or should I stick with AutoGK with this process?

If you need more info about the issue, just ask and I will help.
    Thank you,
    Ryan

    rpeters14,
Use DVDFab HD Decrypter to break encryptions first. Subsequently, inject the resultant files in DVD Shrink and Reauthor--selecting only the episodes by dragging the titles from the Main Movie to the DVD Structure pane. Afterwards, click Backup; create an ISO image and start encoding. Now, you can use FairUse Wizard to convert ISO to AVI. Get it here. Here's a guide. If you're more comfortable with AutoGK, then use it instead.

Wouldn't it be better to use DVDShrink with AnyDVD so he wouldn't need to use DVDFab to decrypt? Eliminates a step and saves time. Just my thoughts

I absolutely agree with you. I understand at times "it's better to earn a fast nickle than a slow dime". But then again, that wouldn't be free. I'd like to help people in the most frugal means possible. Whether they want to splurge on some fancy sharewares or not, that's their prerogative. If you want to talk about an even more speedy process, then you can use Xillisoft DVD Ripper Platinum (not free) along with AnyDVD (again not free) to directly encode a DVD to AVI by-passing the baby steps. Good take though, friend.

If I were to use this process could I come out with a single AVI file that would be around 700 mb, XVID AC3 encoded? I'm not looking for the cheapest way, but THE BEST WAY. As long as the software prices are within reason I can get them. I'm simply looking for an efficient, easy way to turn all my "The Wire" DVDs into single file AVIs that are around 350mb and then burn two single AVI Eps onto a single DVD +R 16x disc. As you've probably surmised from my previous post, I already have DVD Shrink and AnyDVD. Any suggestions?

I know that the outputted file is auto-sized. But I'm pretty sure it can be tweaked to a required size. Have a look at this guide. Try it first before purchasing. Download it here.

The only program I use on episode DVD's is dr.divx 2.0 (free). Divx is not to different than xvid and plays on any player that plays svid files.

I've tried autogk, fairuse and many other programs to do episode dvd's but none worked like I wanted. With Dr.divx 2.0 you just browse to where your VOB's are and pick all of them (the program will only allow you to pick vob's nothing else).

Just pick the quality you want (I always use home theatre quality with the default settings). It'll process the vob's in two-pass mode and when it's completed all the episodes will be in one large 2.5 gb and play one right after the other. The quality is near dvd.

Though like you I prefer xvid for dvd movies, for episodic dvd's I prefer to use divx because dr.divx 2.0 is the only program that I found that can do the job perfectly everytime. If nothing else works for you, you might give dr.divx 2.0 a try.

Looks like I need your help again. I've tried everything to AVI these "The Wire" files. DVDFab, DVD Decrypter-to-ISO-to-FairUse, DVDShrink with AnyDVD and AutoGK and I can't get past the 1st step to make a single AVI. Error msgs are popping up all over the place.

First let's do Decrypter with FairUse (Free & FULL versions). After decrypting and changing to ISO I open FairUse, name the file, locate the Output folder and click on Next. The Source box pops up and I select the source ISO file. When I hit Next I get this Error msg

Then I tried it with the burned disc as source and I get this error msg

So I tried with AutoGK. I go to the folder on my HD where the ripped movie files are, locate the IFO file, click on it and I get this error: "Error Parsing IFO File." All discs and files used in these attempts have been clensed of all encryption. The burned disc plays fine on my pc. I followed all instructions to the letter. I've been trying to make these AVI files since Saturday afternoon with no luck and it's now 2 hours to Super Bowl. So what the heck am I doing wrong?

    TeeLow,
I'm not sure exactly what the cause of your problem is in Fairuse Wizard. My only guess is the ISO is probably not structured properly. Can you open this file in DVD Shrink?

With AutoGK, I suggest reinstalling it; make sure you save the temporary files in your C Drive. Also, it could be that it's running in compatibility mode. What OS do you have?

I don't think the ISO is ther problem. DVD Decryptor can only read or write from the disc. With all encryption removed there shouldn't be a problem. Just to make sure, I made dupe ISO's with Power ISO, Magic ISO and Ashampoo Burning Studio 6. File extensions are .iso. None of them work in FairUse. When the ISO's didn't work I used the ripped files as source. No dice.

I figured out the problem with AutoGK. Seems with Serial discs the VOB file is used instead of the IFO file. I have a Hew-Pack 2.3 gh, double burner WinXP Home with 900 gb of HD space and 1000 gb of RAM. 2 Internal (West-Dig 80 gig main & 300 gig SATA slave) and 1 external drive (500 gig WD USB)

I was wrong about solving AutoGK. It won't do series DVDs for me. It will copy only the first Ep of the disc but not any of the others on the disc. I'm totally back at square one...and stuck with this useless software

Like I said, tell me if these ISO files are being accepted by DVD Shrink. Using those programs you mentioned will yield an ISO file with the correct extension. But that doesn't mean they are structured properly. I just tried Fairuse Wizard and it worked without a hitch.
