I would like to convert my DVD to a Divx avi file. It has regional protection. What program(s) do I require? Thanks
JXBlack Go Here as the guide and the software is there: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd2avi.cfm
After ripping and shrinking the DVD, consider AutoGordianKnot - best left to run overnight, but gives good results. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64266 (Load VTS_01_0.IFO and select predefined size or a custom size.
The simple way to process the DVD is to rip it to the HD with DVDFab HD Decrypter, it's free. http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm Then download and install the trial for Corel DVD Copy 6 plus. http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Product/1184603817896 If anyone is wondering about the name, InterVideo and Corel merged. Open Copy 6 and select what type files you're working with at the top left of the window, then go through the output options, the icons at the top, and select DivX. Then select the source and the output and you're in business. This program is easy and fast. Check the drop down windows for your options. There's about 5 or 6 for DivX. It can convert to DivX in either NTSC or PAL format. You can use the options behind the hammer icon, bottom left, to set the split to different sizes. For instance 700MB if you're going to put the output on 2 CDs.
get the free fairuse lite 2.6, the only problem is that it requires an ISO image to do the conversion. Use free dvdfabdecryter to decode dvd than use free dvdshrink 3.2 to make an ISO. Also for best DIVX quality, you might want to use the free Dr.divx 2.0, right now they are giving away the divx encoder for free (20.00 value)at there website as a holiday promotion. This program just uses the VOB files for the conversion. It has the best quality I have seen on the default home theatre setting. Fairuse and dr.divx are easy to use programs and there default settings produce very good results, that's all I use for my XVID/DIVX conversions.
