Can you guys list some names of software that will compress a dvd to fit on a cd-r and play on a dvd player?

Only suggestion i have for you is to convert it to a VCD as a full DVD with menus etc just wont fit on a CDR well it can but the quality will be that of something so low..

You can also try a ksvcd there pretty nice.

I have pulled the 'audio only" from a few DVD's with DVD Decrypter. After you pull the audio (depending on the settings you choose it will save it as AC3) then you use a similar product called BELITE to convert the ac3 to wav, WMA or MP3. MP3 is the smallest file that I am aware of, but not ALL cd players recognize or PLAY mp3. That is my problem with an older cd in my 2001 car, but my 2006 car cd will play it fine. Oh well, maybe it was a cheapie unit tin the 2001 car. Who knows. to find DVD Decrypter, do a web search.
    good luck
