I have a data dvd filled with mp3s and other song files. I want to transfer this to my hard drive but i dont have a dvd burner. I tried just dragging it onto my c drive but an error message came up saying that it is an invalid MS-DOS action. Is it possible for me to transfer these files or at least import them into my music library? And how? Thanks in advance
Well umm what i would do is transfewr a bit at a time. otherwise u will get frezzes and everything else. soo just transfer them e.g. 10 to 20 files at a time
Well i tried to transfer one file and it came up with an error.... So u dont need any software to do this?
u dont need if ur transfering fro a floppy as in to and from A:\ the only time u need software is if ur transfering from C:\ to ur CD ROM or Burner u can still transfer without software from the CD to the hard drive no probs windows should do it no probs unless u have a sys prob wat does the error say???
firstly its a dvd and not a cd..... wen i transfer it, the error says that it is not a valid MS-DOS process.... I tried to create an ISO disc image with undisker, but some strange things keep happening... The dvd has 4.3gigs of data but wen i use undisker it says it has total data size of 380megs..... it gets to about 1.8gigs and then it suddenly becomes negative 1.8 gigabytesm and works back up from there... When it gets to about 70% complete, heaps of errors occur in the sectors, and i cancelled it soon after... can somebody tell me how to get this to work?
How much space do you have on your hard drive? Maybe not enough? It could just be that there is a problem with the disk you are trying to copy dirty, scratched just plain old? If you know how to use DOS a little you could try making a folder on your hard drive like MP3 or what ever then after opening DOS typ this cd\c:\mp3 Hit enter then type in the following asumming your DVD ROM drive is D:\ copy d:\ Hit enter That might work
I'm just curious for more information. I assume you have a DVD drive (not burner) on your puter (obviously how else can you see the files to try to drag them ?). Can you play any of the music files on your puter (just by double clicking on the file)? What operating system are you using ? Can you try a control C (copy) and control V (paste) to move one file to the hard drive ? Do the music files on the DVD play on a stand alone DVD player ? Can you actually see the file extensions on any of the files ? Your answers might help in identifying the problem. Yrnehbad
Thank you all very much for your replies.... Firstly bbmayo, ive got 30gb left on my hard drive so that rules that out, and unfortunately i dont know the first thing about using DOS. When i tried moving some files again, some of them transferred, but when it reached a certain file the "Moving or Copying file or folder cannot transfer "filename": Invalid MS-DOS function" error came up and the process got cancelled. When i tried trasferring that file again the same thing occured. So this only happens to certain files. Maybe the tagging of the mp3s has something to do with it??? Also im wondering if my computer is able to read a these music files, can it still be possible that they are errored and cannot be transferred? To yrnehbad, yes i've got a DVD drive, not a burner on my comp. All the files that ive tried have played perfectly. Im using WIN XP SP2 I can see the file extensions on all the files... also does anyone know why i get a negative data soze while using undisker?
ok.... so i tried to just crtl C then crtl V the songs onto my hard drive... and the ones that didnt work before all transferred successfully, but when i tried copying other files, it once again came up with the invalid MS-DOS function error.... could this have something to do with the filenames? the mp3 tags? the programs the mp3s were ripped with?
its your media--ive had this problem b4 they would play in the drive but will never transfer to computer--i had this when i was using princo----i dont no what you have--but this might help also try another dvd -with files --and update firmware---and then last but least buy a new media and or dvd/burner drive there like 50 bucks hope this helps
hi... thanks for the reply im using a sony dvd-rom/cd-rom combo, if that helps at all... so your saying that the problem's with the dvd? also how do i update the firmware?? sorry for all the newb questions... btw the dvd is my friend's and they had no trouble transferring files from it
Every drive is not created equal.. What I mean by that is some DVD ROM drives will handle copying from problem disks better than others so your friend may just have a better drive. This really sounds like it is the media issue. Does your friend have a DVD Burner? If so maybe he can copy the files to a new blank DVD (different brand) and ask him/her to burn it as slow as possible. Then you might be able to copy them files. Or invest in a good DVD ROM drive for about $20. Updating your firmware may help but I doubt it. Just go the the sony website and look under support and downloads for your drives firmware all the instructions will be there on how to flash your drive.
