do what?.. you use a beta operating system.. a 64 bit beta operating system.. which is packed to the gills with as yet undocumented and therefore undefeated drm and anti copy features.. and expect people to have made software for it before M$ have decided how far up the mpaa's backside they are prepared to crawl...

not likely .. no devs are going to waste their time beating m$ until M$ are committed to the retail version and it's pretty much fixed for the next 5 years..

we never give our secrets away to them while they can change things.

Don't lose a ring whole. I found what I was looking for there are Dev's working on software and have posted all over the net, 9 out of 10 vista64 programs are up and running just fine on windows 7 beta and the retail version is almost here it is my opinion you are a little disgruntled awe too bad pal. Why answer if you can't help? Oh you just needed to vent. RIGHT!! Hit the bricks

Dev's develop it's what they do.. What you think (ha) no one is looking at windows 7 because you don't like it.

The same process works just as well on Windows 7 as on my vista and xp machines just wanted some feedback from someone who might be helpful and knowledgeable. info not M$ bashing please not a windows fanboi but it's workable.

david, you, good sir, are an idiot.

First, you assume that people have developed programs that work perfectly on a PROTOTYPE operating system. Granted, Windows 7 is already tons better and more stable than Vista, but you just sounded really, really stupid when you go out and spout that you want a "simple GUI windows 7 can use to decode DVD to mkv," but that you don't want to "use a bunch of programs still that aork [sic] half the time and won't work on 64bit windows 7."

If you had thought about it, I'm sure you would have realized the idiocy of your statements. You want a "simple GUI" that can work on a Beta system and can do complex video re-encoding. Really?

I can understand why varnull got on your case. You didn't even think about what "Beta" means when you wrote your post, did you? What he did was simply let you know that you would likely NOT find an answer to your question because of all those limitations he mentioned. The fact that you DID find one is great, but it was sheer luck that it gelled with 7.

And then you go bitching about how "well, duh, idiot, almost all the programs Vista can use, 7 can use, why didn't you realize that before?" And you further exacerbate the matter and make yourself look like a pompous dickwad in the process by saying he's "a little disgruntled" and trying to pull a little pompous stick out of your ass.

You're right, though, that devs DO develop. However, what you obviously miss out on is the fact that, again, Windows 7 is in its BETA phase right now. There are still KINKS TO WORK OUT.

So yeah. Way to come out looking like the ignorant prick.

Wrong I don't want anything. Just posted a question. Long posts and name calling isn't necessary. I am sure you have your reasons to call me all those names. I understand there are kinks to work out to ask for a simple method should not make one stupid or whatever it is you called me.
I am appreciative of any help afterdawn and its participants have to share, and it is of course always with great pleasure a learning experience.

You don't want anything, yet you decide to start a thread asking for something. Right.

I called you an idiot because you disregarded what varnull said, thinking it was some sort of fanboy hatred when it really was just the simple fact. You think that I'm bitching on you because you asked for something, which isn't true. I'm bitching at you because you assumed that Windows 7, a beta operating system, has a program that can do such complex stuff and work without a single hitch.

Heck, re-encoding programs have problems on STABLE OSes. What makes you think there'd be a perfectly stable program that works on 7?

That said, since you found what you were looking for, kudos.
