I want to convert my dvd to mpeg. I guess this would be VOB to MPEG2 . Anyone know of a program that does this without too much complication? I have some programs (dvd Decrypter, Nero - version 6, FabGold, dvdshrink, DvdRemake Pro,PgDemux, Muxman, Sonic version 7.22, InterVideo Windvd (version2)but I can't see where you go to do this (if these in fact can do this conversion).

vob files are already mpeg2 but sound is muxed, I need it to be straight mpeg2 where it isin't.

I am a Windows XP user.Apprecate any help anyone can give.

well simular to what agentgman suggested..I know ImToo MPEG Encoder will encode a VOB to any other format mpg, avi, wmv, etc. Do you mind me asking WHY you are wanting to convert a DVD complient format back down to a MPEG? so you can demux? edit somehow? a lot of editing programs won't allow mpeg to be imported you'll have to go all the way back to .avi or .wmv for some.

Headborg, No I don't mind you asking at all. I am using a program by Pinnacle (now Avid) called Studio (version 10) and am introducing some of my dvd into the project. Now Studio only works with avi or straight mpeg2 files for editing. It does not work with vob files.

By the way I didn't think converting from vob to straight Mpeg2 was down converting as far as I am aware no quality loss should be apparent.

A VOB contains streams of video, audio and subtitles. It may even optionally hold
    - multiple video streams - known as angles,
    - multiple audio tracks - different languages or formats (DTS/Dolby Digital/MPEG/PCM), and
    - multiple subtitles - in different languages.

ImToo Mpeg Encoder when it strips a .vob down you get only a .mpeg-2
with a single audio track. I'm still looking for an encoder that will extract/ salvage all the other "goodies" I would call that a "loss" of quality and content...expecally when the encoder gets confused with the multiple streams ..in areas...such as 20 minutes of English then suddenly Portugesse! Unexpected shifts of angle.

Headborg, fair enough, point taken. I was thinking more in terms of video quality.

Funny enough since my post I tried agentgman's (and your) suggestion and gave ImToo a go. It did exactly as suggested and converted the file as I wanted i.e. a straight mpeg2 file.

However after I played the file I thought the video looked a little duller than I remembered it. So I did a direct comparison with some frames from the conversion result and that from the original and noticed the original was much sharper. I can only conclude from this that some picture quality was lost in the conversion. Is this normal for such conversions or is this meant to be a digital conversion with either no or minimal loss? Perhaps it is the program which needs a tweek?

I believe it's the program, I've had ImToo longer than TMPGenc and CCE...I like taking clips from DVD's and editing Fan Video's out of them..this requires converting .vob to .avi to use in the editor. Between ImToo, tMPGenc, and CCE..ImToo is the fastest but lowest quality...but I don't know if the other two Encoders there would support .vob to .mpeg2.

I have bought SanDisk Corporation's top-of-the line SanDisk Sansa e200 MP3 player with a large screen and huge storage capacity . The Sansa e200 series features a slim new design and a 1.8-inch TFT color screen along with high-quality audio, photo viewing and video playback capabilities. The company says its large colour screen is ideal for viewing playlists, photos and personal videos.
The player offers an industry-leading 6GB capcity that holds more than 1,400 MP3 songs. It is also available in 2 and 4GB models.
I'm very fond of music and movie and want to download a large number of songs and movies to my mp3. So I want to ask which audio and video file formats can occupy the most minimal room compared with others as well as a high video/and audio quality ? Can I find some useful softwares on imtoo.com ? Or you can introduce some special video/audio converter softwares to me?
