I'm trying to make a compilation video of film clips from DVDs. When I was in college it wasn't as much of a problem to hook the VCR into our special video card in our Macs and transfer video to the hard drive--it just took forever. Then we could do all the video editing we wanted. Now I can't seem to figure out how to transfer DVD to the hard drive for editing. I just want to use short clips to put together a music video--I don't need the sound from the DVDs, just the video. I have downloaded Smartripper, DVD2AVI, DVDDecrypter, and TMPGEnc, and I always get some kind of error message at some point. I've copied a chapter from one DVD to the hard drive, but it isn't editable in Windows Movie Maker or Video Edit Magic. Can someone tell me how to simply convert DVD to an editable format?
I use ImTooDVD Ripper (commercial program) to rip dvd to avi or mpeg, then Video Edit Magic for the editing.
