I am setting up a PVR computer with MediaMVP to serve the recordings over the network to the TV, but the hardware has not arrived yet. The MediaMVP requires that recordings be mpeg1 or mpeg2 format with wav audio since it does not support AC3.

I want to back up my DVDs to mpeg1 or mpeg2 with wav audio but would like better quality than VCD and have seen movies in the 1500-2000 mb size that looked very good.

I have read the guide about converting to VCD format using DVD2AVI and TMPGenc and was wondering how to set up TMPGenc so as to create a higher quality file?

Any information, tips, or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Which version of Tmpgenc ?
Usually, this program has templates or presets for vcd, svcd,
DVD, 1/2 D1 etc, etc. Pick the one you want.
    1/2 D1 may be a good choice - full-screen playback, but a lower
    bitrate requirement.

Does it really need uncompressed WAV audio? You can save some space
by using mp2, perhaps (thus allowing more bits for the video).

    Good luck !
