hi im new here and im just finding out about dvd upconverters.
ive got a mitsubishi 65' dlp tv that supports 1080p
ive also got a dvd collection of 500+
im wondering if a dvd up converter is worth it and if so which?
i dont mind if its a dvd player + up converter or just a stand alone, which ever is best. the thing is if its a player and upconverter it needs to support dvd - r dvd backups
    any advice is much appreciated

DVD upconverting "UPSCLING"is worth it,,if you have a good unit, mainly the upscaling chip in the unit is whats important,I own 2 upscaling DVD players, one that can upscale with component connection and the other with HDMI,I guess it will depend on your TV connections, although if your TV accepts 1080P most likely will be HDMI,in that case take a look at the new Pioneer DV696AV-s is a hard to beat for the money,
I purchesed mine for $257 at JB hifi near Brisbane, the RRP is $299.
This unit Does play evrything and upscales,REALLY GOOD UNIT,,good luck
