I am using DVD Shrink and Nero 6 Ultra Edition. I don't know if you need any more information. I haven't even burned a dvd with this yet so I don't know if it works or if a driver just isn't working right, it burns CD's fine, but not dvd's... gets about 16% done and then gets an error message... Thanks! @johno590 - - your firmware is dated 13th Oct 2004. Latest is here - http://support.benq.com/files/storage/Firmware/DVDRW/DW1620/B7V9.zip dated 15th May 2005. - that's a bit long in the tooth, but that's hopefully just something to take note of. lets see what else shows up first - ok, maybe its time for an update - i think thats too close to edge of disc - there's mine, so yours is writing a tad too close to edge of disc. Your Nero doesn't have the figure in Megabytes either. Set the target size in Shrink's preferences to say 4300MB, thus further away from edge of disc. I have mine permanently set to 4300MB even on high quality media - your drive doesn't like the media. Plus no mention of media brand/type throughout the logfile, so i think firmware has to be upgraded, plus it would be worth upgrading Nero. Latest version is 6.6.0.13
johno590 Welcome! One thing I can tell from this log is your burner doesn't like the media you are using from this line: Try updating your firmware. What media are you using?
creaky Didn't mean to step on you toes but I think you type faster than me - plus you have more answers! Either that or my typing skills have been dimished due to a few drinks. Yeah off I go too 11:52 here.
i have the same problem mines stops at 3% and i dont know whats goin on i am burning with nero at the top is says. SCSI Command Aborted and at the bottom it says Record state faild... please help thanks nick
Things that are worth to look/check for: 01) use good quality media i.e. Fuji/TY, Verbatim, Maxell, TDK, SONY and make sure it says: "MADE IN JAPAN or SINGAPORE." 02) try to update your dvd burner/writer's "firmware" regularly through its legit site for media compatibility or speed performances, if any available. 03) if you're new, don't go beyond 4X or 8X when backing up 04) if your stand alone dvd player is older than 2 years old, then stick with DVD-R media instead of DVD+R, or if you can then change the book type settings into DVD-ROM when using DVD+R media
Thanks for the help, Ok here's some more info on all of this... I had another BenQ DVD burner a while back but it like blew up on me BenQ said they never heard of such a thing, so I sent it back and they sent me this new, faster burner.. My old burner was buring dvd's no problem, I have maybe 20 dvds "backed up" with no coasters... and now I can't get one to burn. I'm using Phillips 4x DVD+R just like I used before... I guess it's possible that this dvd burner just doesn't like them? I just installed new versions of DVD Decrypter, Shrink, Nero 6.6.0.13 Demo, and am installing the driver update... I'll set my disc space lower, and I'll try again, if nothing still I guess I'll be buying new dvd-r's.. Thanks!
Well it still didn't work, and I think it has something to do with nero... it said my demo was already up (but I havent even used it a day yet) so I'll have to figure something else out... I'll try to get this solved today
Ok, still not working... now after I do DVD Shrink and try to burn, it didn't even start to burn on the dvd... What is 'Book Type DVD-ROM' and 'Burn at least 30mm' and should those be checked? Anyways here is the error message... I might go and try to get a different brand of dvd's to burn on... - it just doesn't like that media. What's bothering me is there's still no mention of media in the log. Here's what i see in my logs - - what media are you using, the drive just don't like whatever it is
oh dear. try downloading dvdinfopro (free download) and click on the media info icon and paste here. a couple of examples of Philips 4x +R : - hope you haven't got the CMC discs as they're the worst discs on the planet the media check will confirm....

'fraid our old friend the bad disc fairy has visited. see the links in my sig. We did everything your logfile wanted, so the only thing left is bad media, quality media is needed, my sig also suggests a couple of brands of top quality media, though there are others. I use primarily Verbatim [bold]datalifeplus[/bold], and as of about 3days ago started buying some TY (i'd held off buying TY before as they're fakes as they're the best media you can get). There are many ppl here who recommend a select few makes/brands of media also, but the 2 i use are considered among the best. There's no cost difference in crap media over the top quality stuff..
@johno590 - i just recommended your thread to followers of another - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/179066 - purely on the basis of the merits of bad media, not the actual errors within that thread
@johno590 Definitely post back with your results (good, bad or otherwise) after you try new media - Hopefully you'll buy Fuji or Verbatim. @creaky I just finished reading that thread. Give them 6 months if that long before they have problems and can't figure out why their disc no longer play perfectly. Ah you live and learn
