    hey
I have read another thread with pretty similar problem ....tried a few bit of things in there ....but nothing has worked yet

my problem is that I have a CD/DVD writer...which all of a sudden has developed this problem( actually I am using the cd drive after quite a while)--it is playing CDs well enough but does not recognize anything when a DVD is inserted..No error message ..nothing at all..DVD writing software says -"no media present "..I have tried different DVDs so cant be a problem with disk

I read on another site that some1 with a similar problem sorted it out by cleaning the lens
this was not suggested by anyone here yet...can plzz some1 tell me whether tht may be a problem ??

Also how to clean it-manually or using a cleaning CD...which one to use??

any tutorial available for manual cleaning ??

I get odd behavior with my DVD burner from time to time too.
Often I can right click on the burner, select Properties > Recording and un-check 'Enable recording'.
    I then re-enable it.
In extreme cases, I uninstall the controller that the drive is connected to and reboot - which reinstalls the drivers.

you can clean the lens with a shot of canned air or use a cd/dvd cleaner disc or both.

I would uninstall the drive and the IDE controllers both reboot and let windows reinstall them also you might try a firmware update, check here

well I did uninstall & reinstall both IDE controllers & DVD drive ....& reboot

only 1 change has occurred --now with a DVD inserted , when I try to open it by double clicking on the drive name in "my computer"--it shows a message "no disc in drive E:/"....this was not earlier shown...it just used to show a blank screen earlier.

However the problem still persists...I think it is a software problem...not a hardware one..

I had installed POWERISO few months back & I think tht it is probably the culprit...not sure..just guessing...now I have uninstalled it but no use...

can someone suggest something new...I would be gr88ful...thxxxxxx
