i have a lite-on 1693s dvd burner that won't read the newer dvd movies. it seems that if the dvd is more than 4.7 gb my drive won't read it or even recognize there is a disk in the drive. it plays movies that are less than 4.7 gb with no problem. the drive is suppose to play dual layer dvd's. running xp sp2. any suggestions would be appreciated. reinstalled drive, upgraded firmware.

Are you talking about commercial movies, or home brew movies? If home movies, you either have a bad burn, or your burner needs a firmware update, or it may be a bad burner, even if it is new.

All commercial movies that I have, are DL discs. You may have a bad burner.
