Hello peeps im hoping 1 or 2 of u may be able to sort out a problem.

When starting to record a DVD the writer seems to write the lead in then fail. I have tried record now max and nero and both have the same result. Ive tried 3 brands of disc (all fail), defragged hdd's, run spyware & virus checks and its still the same....

Ive even tried a different writer ... same. If I had enough spare space i would format and reinstall but to do that i need to back my data to DVD ;-) PC spec xp2800, gig ram, raid drive (plenty of space)

this is a copy of what i think is the relevant bit from the nero log... hope its more use ot you than it is to me ....

Update your version of Nero. That version is extremely old and buggy. Go here and download "Update-Package 1" (Its free): http://www.nero.com/us/nero-up.php

While this may or may not help with this problem. It will defiantly make things go faster for other process. Turn on DMA - Check your DMA settings - How ? do this -> Go to Control Panel> System> Hardware Tab> Device Manager> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers> Right Click Primary IDE channel (and Secondary IDE channel after you finish with Primary)> Properties> Advanced Settings Tab> Transfer Mode or go here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616

Do the above from both "Primary & Secondary IDE channels".

I (We) and you need to look at whats in both "Transfer Mode" and "Current Transfer Mode". Screen shot below is what I'm talking about.

If it is in "PIO" mode. Click the "Driver" tab, and uninstall the driver. Then reboot. Upon rebooting windows will automatically reinstall the driver and it should go back to "DMA" mode.

I going to assume you are trying to burn a ISO image file with Nero?

CMC MAG is the worst disc made. Please switch to a better brand such as Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.

I recommend burning at no faster than 4X, preferably 2X with cheap low quality media.

Again, just a error message that is saying use better blank media (media = medium)

Typical error message when a disc is dirty (finger prints and smudges) or when a disc is to scratched up.
