Hey, I've got a new DVD writer which i bought off a colleague at work. It is a TSST Corp (Samsung) WriteMaster H552U 16x DVD+RW. I have put it into my PC but for some reason it will not burn DVDs. When i put a DVD with information into it, it will flicker the light and pick up what is on the DVD and allow me to explore it to see what is on the DVD. However, if I put a blank DVD into the drive it says that there's 0MB of free space even though i've only just pulled it out of the pack. I have tried using software such as DVD Decrypter, ImageBurn, IsoBuster, Nero, Alcohol 120% etc as I need to burn .iso image files onto the DVDs. On everyone i use it initially flashes up as the total 'estimated time' being approx 10 minutes. Then 'remaining time' will begin to count down whilst the buffer counter bar will beging lighting up in green until it gets to 100%. Whilst all this is happening, it says "Writing LeadIn" in the bottom left corner of the window. When it gets to this stage it just hangs then. The LED on the drive stops flickering and it sounds as if the disc stops spinning. I have tried letting it go for a couple of hours but it still says the estimated time is approx 10 minutes with the buffer bar at 100% an the Writing LeadIn text in the bottom corner. At this point, the only way to shut the burning softwre down is by Alt-Ctrl-Del but my PC is still using most of it's CPU even when the software finally shuts down. The DVD drive will not open either. I have to reset the PC to be able to open the drive again to get the wasted coaster out. Any ideas what is wrong or how to rectify it? I have upgraded the Firmware already from U03 to U09. Any help gratefully received as I'd rather fix this issue than fork out unnecessary money on a new drive.
