First of all, hello to all in what is my first post. I have just installed a new dvd writer on my desktop and although the pc can see the disc the movie freezes when I try and play it. I can get a picture however it judders and then pretty much pauses with the picture still viewable. Prior to putting the new writer in I had a Samsung dvd writer model SH-202. I also installed this writer and have never had any problems with it. There is also a dvd-rom drive in the pc, which has always worked with the SH-202. The new writer is also a Samsung however is a dual layer model SH-222. What is really annoying is after trying the new drive in the pc, I put the old one back in and now have the exact same problem! I have looked on the net and tried various things such as deleting the upper and lower filters. Firmware updates, updating drivers. Uninstalling the primary & secondary IDE and even replaced the IDE data cable in case I damaged it when removing the drives. As a last resort I have done a factory restore however this has still helped... Any help on this matter would be really, really appreciated. Thanks in advance. Jason
Did you try different discs, or you tried the same disc with both drives? maybe the discs you are trying to play is faulty...
Tried several dics all with the same problem. When I first put the new drive in, I actually removed the dvd rom so that I had the the dual layer as the master and the normal writer as the slave. I tried switching them around and also the CS functon but still nothing. I then tired reverting to the original set up and found that the problem was also evident.
