Veritas Record Now Deluxe is one of the best. There is a user guide and link to download on in my signature.

    It's probably the media you are using to burn to , [bold]Ritek G04 [/bold] is a good/reliable disc !!

    I'd suggest [bold]Nero 6 Ultra [/bold] as a burning prog myself : )

    Need a hand here Oriphus......?......LOL

LOL......this thread did make me giggle....

But yes - Recordnow Deluxe is a nice package to trial......

However, I have heard that the new version of Nero contains lots of extra niknaks to play around with....

I Haven't even looked into Nero 6 as Recnow does the job for me......

Worthwhile trialing them both, and seeing which works for you the best..............just to add....

    Recordnow Deluxe..........goes ALL THE WAY.........LOL

As Herbs stated, the media used has probably caused the stuttering.........Ritek G04 based dye discs seem to the most stable I have come across........

RecordNow Max/Deluxe burns at maximum disc speed (is a bad feature)

True, but if your writer is supported then speed ranges upto the max can be selected....

The instance I spoke of is as:

    A Pioneer DVD-RW104 , Ritek G03 DVD-R , RecordNow Max!
After sorting out files and ready to burn , the last thing done was to change burn speed to X1. It still burnt at X2 , therefore giving errors (that I knew would happen at X2) on the outer edge.

[tried under 2 different firmware versions also].

    Like I said...bad feature ;-)

Testing with some real cheap stuff marked One (www.o1ne.co.uk), really manufactured by Datasafe (www.datasafe-media.com).

Cost is £18.00 for 25 disks (from local store).

    So far, so good.

    Testing procedure is:

Windows Performance Monitor (perfmon) is running continuously in the background, logging cpu load, hard-disk I/O, RecordNow I/O & memory.

    VIDEO_TS folder on hard-drive is READ-ONLY.

    1 - Burn & verify at 2x from a VIDEO_TS folder on hard-drive.

2 - pop the disk back in, PowerDVD autoruns & plays fullscreen, perfmon logging in background as before.

3 - when played through, shut PowerDVD down.

4 - run a FolderMatch comparison between dvd & folder on hard-drive, checking size, datestamp, binary contents, CRC check, SHA-1.

    5 - eject the disk

    6 - repeat steps 1 to 5.

each complete iteration takes approx 3hrs 20 mins, the whole thing is scripted apart from the putting in of blank media.

Have completed 5 iterations so far with no erroneous results yet (all the perfmon logs show almost the same figures as PrimoDVD under the same conditions).

Admittedly, my 104 is in perfect condition (I service it myself, properly balanced mechanism etc), so sh***y media has less problems.

Will keep you guys up to date.

    Have Fun...

Nice , I like your scientific approach to test ;-)

[oh yeah & thnx...I know who to turn to now if my 104 goes kaput - lol).

    herbsman,

if your 104 shuffles off its mortal coil, it wouldn't be economic to repair, seeing as I can buy a 106 for £85 inc. VAT locally - you should be able to find a similar price soon.

But I will quite happily take the 104 for spares when it does go.

Question: do you think I have been rattling some established cages a bit?

I'm getting some feedback trickling in, one from a well-liked and respected participant who thinks it might have something to do with my "n00b" status.

Is there some unwritten gentlemans agreement that "n00bs" posting techie stuff are frowned upon?

If I have to serve my apprenticeship first, then I can handle that, I can just leave the techie stuff out until I am acceptable.

    LOL

I was only joshing about repair if failing to write one day but... it would be handy to get some £/€ back for spares on the unit ;-)
Firstly I think tech. posts are okay by whomsoever posts them (aslong as they are correct - lol)
Who is to say where & what has been learnt before even signing up to aD forum.
In the last few months I have joined BitTorrent & ed2k link related Forums and I was newbie there for a while too but no-one got moody if I offered any DVD-R help in posts ; )
Maybe the well-liked and respected participant had the misapprehension that you were just a cocky so & so , but everyone has the censorship of not having to read if they dont want to (at any time).

    Anyway , I'm hammered...it's New Year's Day !!!
