I have a question for the community? I ran into a couple of end users that told me they are running DVD X copy platinum, the newest version and they swear by it telling me that to date they haven't had a failed backup of any older or newer dvd. I chuckled and told them that I believed that wasn't a full fledged honest answer as the newer dvd's come packed with some slick updated copy encryption and I don't think X copy even has any updates. If the community could help me out with some user and expert tech. opinions or facts I would appreciate it. I'm trying to build a little listing of dvd's that I believe these end user's can't backup with X copy. Such as the brothers grim, dark water, and so on and so forth. Thanks and I look forward to finding and exploiting the bluff.

I would HAVE to SEE that to believe it. They must not be backing up the Newer Columbia/Sony ones. Unless they are running AnyDVD with it, I see no way that Xcopy could do it.

My sentiments as well, they're using an updated decryption sytem to go with the XCopy. If they're just using XCopy as a transcoder and burner with an auxiliary decrypter, then yes, they can do the new movies with XCopy. Much the way DVD Shrink and other apps that need an updated decrypter function.

Madagascar, The Fog, Legend of Zorro, The Cave, and I believe Flightplan can be added to your can't do list. Anything with the updated ARccOS protection with bad VOBUs and bad sectors.

Thank you for the info. so far. Yes so far these end users said they had no other decrypting program installed solely only dvd x copy. I told the one user it was nearly impossible for the newer one's as well, but didn't go into detail about the encryptions to them as I felt they were already being too cocky and false with their statements. Let me know if their is any more that I can add to the list, as I know sony is pretty good for their dvd's and pain in the butt encryptions. Thanks.

I don't think I'd go quite that far. The biggest problem with XCopy was it didn't play well with some software and some systems. I've used it and it actually did a good job. As for updates, it got up to Platinum 5.0 just before XCopy-International pulled it. One of my friends with a big projector set swears by 5.0 for doing his DL backups. The deal that was really crap was the app's support. Once 321 got into trouble in court, things went south fast.

None of these authors of the software are or were clairvoyant that I'm aware of. So, they had no way of knowing what protections would be added to future DVD releases. Without that knowledge, there is no way they could write a decryption program to remove a particular protection scheme like that with the newer ARccOS, Puppetlock with bad VOBU and bad sector protection. The one click decryption software have been a reaction to the actions taken by the "Industry", not preemptive.

If you really want to get these guys, take a DVD of "The Cave" or "The Legend of Zorro" (Check with AnyDVD to ensure they have the "full boat" of protection) and agree to wait while they do the backup with XCopy alone. Make sure they're not running AnyDVD or the like with a hidden icon. ;) What they're claiming is impossible; at least I'd have to see it to believe it and then I'd be checking the PC.

Thank you all for your feedback regarding X copy. I basically told the end user that it was impossible to backup currently released dvd's with x copy. Solely running by itself x copy I don't believe is even worth residing on a system I told the user. Then he began to ask for feedback almost asking for help w/ another decrypting program that can help out save his x copy and I just kept my mouth shut. This was coming from a end user that was so anal and acting hard about this program that I just laughed and said if you have an internet connection research before you open up your mouth especially about an "out" dated prod. This end user is one of the typical types that believes he has disposable money and gets everything he "hears" about. I also said I would like to see all the receipts of wasted away coasters you created all this time. Thanks for all your feedback all, and I'm going to forward him a list of these newer encrypted dvd's so I can enjoy knowing he will probably waste away a spindle of blank dvd's before he gives in and researches about newer encryption, or watches the news, or pics. up a magazine. Later and thanx.

I thought these guys were your buddies. I'd hate to see how you treat the enemies, if these are friends. LOL If you take a look at the situation, some versions of XCopy have a ripper, some don't. Nowadays most transcoders don't. So, all they need is that decryption tool to be current. They're not going to create many coasters if they can't get by the rip stage, so your "coaster curse" won't work on that call. If they happen to visit AD, the Noobs will let the cat outta the bag, their mantra is "get AnyDVD". LOL

dvdxcopy platinum v4038 by can not copy the sony protected movies,as its now dead...

dvdxcopy v40414rf and anydvd running in the back-ground can copy all the sony movies with sony protection.

platinum v5.0.0.13 can not do all the sony protected movies, with anydvd running in the back-ground.

but there is a way for v5.0.0.13 to copy all the protected movies,
is to make it ripper free..

    and here is the answer
remove the bouducon.dll out of the programs files of v5.0.0.13,
take the bouducon.dll out of the 321 studios platinum 40415rf program files and input the bouducon.dll file into your platinum v5 now your platinum v5 will now be ripper free..now useing anydvd and all sony protected movies can be copyed.
    cheers

Hey, I am a big fan of this forum, though this is my first time posting. It has helped me a LOT in my ripping. I don't know anything about dvdx, I've never used it. I use anydvd, with shrink and sometimes dvdd if necessary. I have run into a problem I hope someone can help me with. I read a very old thread about ripping problems with forgotten. I can't BEGIN to comply with the advice because shrink can't even analyze it with or without anydvd. Same with dvdd, I get way too many errors and have even tried to go through pgcedit and vobblanker to finish it off and nada. I get an occasional message from anydvd telling me that it can't read the disc, could the original disc be too bad to read maybe? I haven't had problems with any other dvd whatsoever. The back of forgotten doesn't look that bad, I've ripped some that looked much worse, with 2 kids some of our dvd's get a little beat up, you don't even want to see our clone wars dvds. I don't mean to get off subject, but I really could use some help.

Thanks Ireland, but some of the new movies are toying with compliance so once ripped the files have to be processed through an app such as FixVTS or VobBlanker. A couple of those are "The Cave", and "The Legend of Zorro". I was unaware that XCopy in any version could correct for compliance errors. For XCopy versions able to "Browse", ripping the files with DVDFab Decrypter helps with some movies as it creates IFOs when it rips. PsiDOC had some "auto" tools for transferring the bouducon.dll files to go from ripper to RF or vice versa. For the longest everyone wanted the RF interface with a ripper; now the trend is reversed. With the "dodgy" support and activation on these apps, I still suggest most people steer clear of them. But for those who do get them going, they do a decent job.

Thanks again for reminding the uninitiated about the bouducon swap with XCopy. I hadn't heard anyone bring that up in quite a while.

alkohol has a good rip guide. If you can't find it, PM him for the link. He has it here on AD.

Sounds like a flaw in your technique, because I've been doing the latest releases with the heavy protections from Sony. I used AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter or DVDFab Decrypter and when compliance issues come up I use FixVTS. There's a method with PgcEdit and a PSL2 plugin for Decrypter, though that's more work, it is reliable when done right. There's guides and info around on that as well.

On these new movies, the key to a good backup is getting the "cleaned" source to be compliant for processing and burning. Getting a "clean" source to transcode and/or burn has always been the key. Most decent transcoders and/or burners can handle the easy part.

Yea, I've used the really long time consuming method of dvdd, then pgcedit, then dvdd again, then pgcedit again then vobblanker, and then dvdshrink. Before I learned about anydvd, that is how I did my difficult dvd's like madagascar. I learned about anydvd and have had no more problems whatsoever, until now with forgotten. If it was a problem with my technique would it show up with just one movie? I've done the fog and the cave and every other touchy dvd mentioned and no problems. Since forgotten is older I thought it would be less of a problem than the ones I've been doing. But you said dvdfab decrypter, is that better than dvd decrypter, mine isn't "fab"

I forgot to mention the really time consuming method I mentioned was the one with the psl2 plug in where you find the unplayed cells and yada yada yada. The minute that I started having problems with forgotten my dvdwriter went out on my computer and my husband bought me a new lightscribe one, which works great on everything but the forgotten which is the one I was working on when my drive went out. I have done the fog, the cave, just like heaven, and doom on it and all worked fine. I thought forgotten would be easier since it's quite a bit older.

DVDFab Decrypter is a free ripper from DVDIdle.com. It's the ripper part of their DVDFab Express software.

Sounds like you may have a bad DVD. What movie with "forgotten" are you trying to do a backup of? There's "The Forgotten" from '05 and "Forgotten" from '01. I suspect "The Forgotten", which I did not long ago. There's nothing special about it and if the latter, in '01, there was no "protections" like those we have now. I'd suggest doing a read scan of the disc to see if there are bad physical sectors that would interfere. Also, as you know, scratches and anything affecting the disc surface can effect reading. I've run into DVDs that will play but won't record due to physical flaws on the DVD (such as a flawed press). If possible, try it with another copy of this DVD. There should be nothing "special" here.

Yea, it's the forgotten from 2005. The scratches don't look all that bad and it will play in all of our dvd players, but when it is analyzing in dvdshrink it always freezes in the same spot. It must be a bad disc, but I will do the scan like you suggested, thanks!!

Seems we agree. ;) A funny thing happened to me once, I got 2 flawed copies of the same DVD before getting one that would copy. It was a bad "press" and they must have gotten a batch of them. Unless a person was trying to record it, they would have never known there was a flaw. If it's a physical problem, you should see a bad block on your graph in a section of the graph corresponding to where you stopped on the read, such as a third of the way through.

Yuppers, it was the dvd. I got another one from a friend and it worked just peachy. Bambi 2 is making me pull my hair out currently. I keep getting a computer error telling me I don't have enough virtual memory that the page something or other is too small. Maybe my computer is getting screwy, I have never had problems like these.

Found a Bambi 2 thread in ad, fab decrypter seems to have done the job. I've never found one that fab worked on that dvdd didn't, learn something new everyday. ;o)
