The software is not finalizing my dvd's. The software reads original dvds, copies them, but when I put the blank Philips DVD to get burned, does it, BUT, when the green task bar is full, the finalizing takes 10-15 minutes, it used to be under 1 minute. When the disc ejects, it says burn successful, but the discs do not read or play in any dvd players. What can I do?

    Welcome to aD!
Sounds like the problem may be your blank discs. Make sure your firmware is up to date on your drive. I would also switch to a better brand of blank discs like Sony, Fuiji (look for made in Japan) or Verbatim DataLifePlus. Philips uses some iffy manufacturers.
Do the burned discs play in your pc? Have you tried any other copy software?

I have both Philips and Verbatim blank DVD's. Neither seem to work, I have also tried formatting both discs to the burner drive. How do I update my firmware? Is there a patch I can download. Also, what other dvd burning software is out there that works like DVD X Copy?

If you want a program that is very similiar to Xcopy then you can try DVDFab Express, I believe you get a trial period with this software

    http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-fab-express.htm

It works exactly like Xcopy only it lets you control the burn speed. The developers of this offer the decrypter part of this software free it is DVDFab Decrypter and it is available at http://www.filepedia.com. You can use this in conjunction with the other free programs DVD Shrink, and to burn you can try ImgBurn developed by LUK who did DVD Decrypter. Available here

Try what arniebear suggested = there are many good programs to use other than X Copy. Stopped using X copy myself about a year ago.
What's the make and model of your drive? Need to check if your firmware is up tp date. I'd stick w/ the verbatim and stay away from the Philips unless they were made by a good manufacturer.
Here's a dl to check the manufacturer code:
    http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
This will also list your current firmware.

@cyclone20, If the above suggestions don't correct your problem you might want to try the DVD X Copy forum at this link. Its also listed at the page bottom. X Copy questions should be posted there.

    Good luck

What's your current firmware version? If you downloaded DVD Identifier
once you open the program you drive and current firmware will be listed under drive selection- the firmware version is listed after FW.

Okay on the top of the program you'll see 'drive selection and drive write capabilities' under this you'll drive will be listed. It will have something like this '[D:]HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA 4040N [FW ????]
your firmware version will be next to the FW where I have the question marks. If you only have the one drive it will default to that if not you will need to click on scroll bar and highlight your burner.
You can also put a disc for the Philips that you have and see who the manufacturer is.

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1997
I also would switch brands of discs.

Do you have any other burning programs besides Xcopy? When you put the disk in does DVD Identifier find this one? You downloaded the firmware update, and you flashed your drive, correct?

Reply: I have no other burning softwares. Yes when I put the disc in the drive using DVD Identifyer it finds the disc. I did download the firmware update, and im not sure what flashing a drive is, so I must not have done that yet.....

For flashing click on the drive and then it will just flash your drive, when done reboot your PC and the new firmware should be there. Remember flashing a drive is always at your own risk, however without doing it the drive will not always recognize and write new media properly. You are running a Dell computer because this file is for a Dell.

Do you have Nero? You really need to try another program to see if it is a problem with Xcopy or the drive.

Heres a little background about my drive. A month ago I had the same problem with my drive or software, after years of successful burnings, burning somehow just wasnt happening, so i contacted Dell, got a new drive, installed it and dvd x and it worked great for the first few dvds, but now its not burning dvds, which is why im on this forum, but my drive does however made music CDs just fine, but not DVD's. I have a hard time believing the problem is my new drive, but as for the software, I installed the same software on my roomates Dell, and his drive burns DVD's just fine....so im at all loss for explanations.....

What is the firmware on your friends Dell is it the same. Just because the drive burns CD's does not mean it does not have something wrong with it. It is hard to diagnose without comparing with another program. Is the drive selected in the drive select box of Xcopy as the burning drive?
