If you are having problems with Xcopy you can go here

    http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/

If you are looking for better programs then try the free ones, DVDFab Decrypter, DVD Shrink and ImgBurn. DVDFab Decrypter will rip your movie and does all the newer encryptions. DVD Shrink will compress your file to fit a DVD5 disk. ImgBurn will burn the output file from DVD Shrink to your disk. You can also get the free DVD Decrypter which will rip most movies but not some of the newer protected ones, it will also burn your output file from Shrink, and can do so if set to automatic. You can also burn your output file from Shrink with Nero if you have it. Two good pay programs are AnyDVD and Clone DVD. AnyDVD is a driver that works in the background and breaks encryptions. Clone will compress and burn your movie.

All guide and software are here

    Hi Mike,

Most people tend to recommend Clonedvd2/AnyDvd combination. I am just trying Clonedvd2 out myself, I purchased AnyDvd at the end of last year. EXCELLENT, worth every penny. There is a 21 day trial, pay after. There is a discount until February 25/2006 if you enter "Afterdawn" in the promotion code:

Here's a guide that BBmayo generously made:

There are also free programs that others can guide you through.

You can never have too much information. This post you could type forever. I agree if you are going to put out money buy AnyDVD and Clone they are the easiest programs to use and are constantly updated. Best bang for your buck IMHO.
