Please help am confuseed. Can dvd x platinum copy already burned dvd-r disc? My computer doesn't. Is this normal? Also sometimes at the end of the burning process a message appears "can not write disc check log file" or something similar. What does this mean/ Disc will not burn. Is the original source DVD no good? Thanks for all your help. Humerus1
howdy humerus1, welcome down to afterdawn, absolutely THE best resource on the net. Why you would want to copy a dvd you have already backed up is beyond me, however, it is generally agreed that dvd x copy cannot backup a disc which has been made using the software. use decrypter or shrink and you'll be laughing. p.s you might think about ditching x copy. I used to love it and was one of the few who had no problems with it whatsoever. Use Shrink instead which is free and you can download the newest version from here : http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm i think you'll aggree the results are MUCH better...let us know how you get on. read here too : http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487 copying stuff you have backed up is not generally accepted as good practice. however I don't know your situation, there may be a few legitimate reasons why you would need to do this, so have a read of the rules and good luck. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]1.4 Mhz AMD, 512 Mb RAM, 120 Gb HD,WinFast 2000 XP Expert Video Card, DVD X-Copy Platinum, TMPGEnc Plus, TMPGEnc DVD Author, DVD decrypter, DVD2One130, Cucusoft AVI to DVD converter, DVD Shrink WinDVD Recorder 5,Nero 6 and Mainconcept MPEG encoder[/small]
Not true... If indeed you have XCopy Platinum, you can use DVDXRescue to backup a copy made by XCopy. But, like aldav45 said "not generally accepted as good practice". Some take this as piracy, and most would say why not use the original.
Thanks so much for responding so soon aldav 45 and flip 218. You rock. I will check out those sites. But I am still confused about message I sometimes get that says can not write chck log file. It is an error message and dvd does not burn. Anyone know why? Thank You. Humerus1
Flip's right so far but if you also want to get rid of that annoying 321 splash screen, then just rip it with DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink and then compress and burn it with your favorite encoder.
Forgive my lack of knowledge Sophocles but what is an encoder? Gosh you guys are light years ahead of me. I know virtually nothing about this stuff. I just know dvd x platinum. Feeling a little bit like a loser.
Sophocles is talking about the software you need to transfer the 'movie' or 'video file' from your hard drive to the blank DVD. DVDX Platinum does that. NERO does that. Decrypter does that. SHRINK does not but you can set SHRINK up to use NERO or Decrypter for the 'burning' (Sophocles used the term 'Encoding') process. If I were you, I would just read the guides you can access from the home page of Afterdawn. The guide to use SHRINK and Nero/Decrypter is quite simple. If you do that, you should be burning a DVD within minutes. Remember, SHRINK and Decrypter are FREE downloads and will do everything you need. All the other software products you read about are just variations of the same, they may do things slightly better or differently, have different options for different circumstances, etc... You can always look at those once you have made a few successful burns with SHRINK/Decrypter. You can also get a 15-30 day fully functional trial version of NERO from Ahead.com. Good luck. BTW: with any or all of these programs it is easy to make a copy of a copy.
(Part of a quoite )Why you would want to copy a DVD you have already backed up is beyond me, however, it is generally agreed that DVD x copy cannot backup a disc which has been made using the software) So if my original breaks I should not back up the back up copy. The hole reason backing up a DVD to have 2 copys. I have copyed back ups with clonedvd2 by elby/Record now/ shrink/decrypter. Some work for some people and not for others your going to have to find a program that works with your computer and you. I don't see why people say you should not back up a back up if your original breaks your just doing what they made the software for making a backup so you have 2. Can anyone tell me why ? I do not understand it.
