Here's the deal. I have DVDX Copy Gold version 3.0.2. I've been doing fine for the last year. I have a Sony Vaio. All of a sudden when I try to burn a copy using DVD Xpress, it will read the DVD fine, and when it's time to start writing, it starts and finalizes within 30 seconds. The only changes over the last few months are as follows. Changed to Windows Service Pack 2, made a failed attempt at downloading a Pioneer 106D firmware update in order to use 8x DVD+R's, and then tried a bunch of suggested patches through the threads. I'm not sure if it's my actual dvd writer, which may be dirty, or broken.... HELP!!!!
Changed to Windows Service Pack 2, There ya go! Tons of people are having problems with SP2, especially conflicts with DVD software. I have blocked it from even being D/Ld on my PC with a blocker MS provided because auto updates turned off doesn't seem to stop it.. If you have a good security system you don't need it. It doesn't start at once but gradually over time. I just had a guy here in AD uninstall it just a week or two ago, after he was having all kinds of problems with his DVD backups, and presto! problem solved. I'm not saying everyone has problems with it but a lot of people do. MS is even re-releasing it because of "some minor problems" as they put it. Google "XP SP2 problems", that'll give you enuff to scare the bejeesus out of you! Before i invested in a new burner I would uninstall SP2 and see if the problems cleared up. If they don't then you might want to consider an alternative route. Read about the problems these people had here, starting about halfway down the first page: http://cgi.tripod.com/321ripforum/c...oftware;action=display;num=1093078864;start=0
