apart from not being able to recognise my first episode of futurama (when i sort that out i'll be laughing), dvd2one won't shrink the files, it brings up two boxes saying... "encrypted data detected." "for full disk copy you need to copy all files from the dvd in file mode." i dont know how i created encrypted data but i don't want it to be. can anyone help with this? it seems to be the only thing standing in my way (apart from the tmpgenc dvd author first episode problems posted below). let me know if you can tell me what i'm doing wrong. thanks for reading, mik
sounds like you havent decrypted the dvd, if you are new to this you need to use dvd decrypter or smartripper to rip your files of the dvd before dvd2one will work. thingimijig.
sorry, this is kinda a carry on from my message below, i decrypted the dvd with dvd decrypter - several dvd's actually (episodic), run them all through tmpgenc dvd author (3 disks worth) and created my own dvd with my own menus and stuff - it's great but it's too big to fit on a disk, so i burned it to my hdd and then went to use dvd2one - but no joy. any ideas? mik
i would try dvdshrink then, if there is a problem with the output of tmpg then dvdshrink will decrypt anyway. thingimijig.
If its 3 DVD's in size and you shrink with DVD Shrink, then you'll find quite a low quality of video output on your TV. I wouldn't tend to put more than two movies onto one disc, unless the originals were not full!
i dont expect the quality to be great but i'm used to vcd so... am experimenting cos i wanna know my dvd burners capabilities and what i can achieve for future reference when backing up my dvd's - i'm gonna try putting all three back to the future movies on one disc and see what happens - trial and error. i figuared out a couple of things. apparently tmpgenc dvd author add something called padding blocks to the stream. i dont know what these are. at the minute dvd2one cannot sort this out but the next version will apparently, though i have no idea when this will be (any ideas?) - shrink will be ok compressing tmpgenc authored material so thats what i have to use, slight problem - takes about 2 hours! boy am i looking forward to that new version of dvd2one! i would also like to be in a position to fit my friends season 1 boxset on 2 dvds instead of 6, again i know quality will be somewhat jaded but it would be nice
Firstly, you must be nuts to even consider putting all three back to the future movies on a single 4.338 (4.7GB) disc. Remeber, all it takes is 10 seconds to change a disc over! Its not that hard. Trying to compress at level 7 or 8 will give you very jumoy and crappy video. Its not the DVD Burners capabilities you are testing, its the software that compresses. DVD Burners just burn, nothing else. The software does the hard stuff.
i get what you're saying, i know the qualities gonna be trash, and yeah you're right it's not the dvd burners capabilities i'm testing (i know that too, you're taking my remarks out of context), i know it's all down to the software. i guess i meant my systems capabilities as a whole, the burner is just my most recent purchase. i'm not gonna be doing such things again i'm only trying to find cut off points - i reckon about 9-10gb should be about cut off whatever it is you're producing, my main concern and why i'm trying to push the boundaries so to speak has to do with nothing but a cash flow problem i've encountered since recently finishing university, until that first pay cheque comes in i can't afford 3 discs, but 1?? yeah. so that'll do till i can afford more. i did bttf on 1 disc, surprisingly good really, far better than any svcd i ever did still, not blotchy, but a bit grainy, not that it takes away from the movie much which is of course very easy to lose yourself in in this case. i'm also having fun making my own menus and authoring my own dvd's for the first time too. thanks for the concern, take it easy mik

yeah, good for you but i've just actually finished for good - so no more loans... bugger! which will be interesting... just downloaded the trial for dvd2one 1.2 wicked, has got passed the old tmpgenc dvd author problems apparently, so need to invest in that too, but i reckon it will be a while yet as i am skint. my dvd-rw has taken some real battering lately! one more question while i'm here, tmpgenc dvd author is brill i think, very easy - are there any other programs as easy to use, that take dvd-video and are more flexible - the only problem i have is it isn't very flexible with the menu's you can't move stuff around on the screen to place it where you want it, you can only change fonts and stuff. anyway, thanks for the time, i've learned a lot these last few days later mate mik
