i was just wondering if there is such a way/program to take a dvd5 (or even a dvd9) and shrink/compress it down to 1 gig w/o ripping.
i know you can do such a thing in dvd shrink, but that requires you to reopen the dvd and shrink it a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time. what im planning on doing is to author a dvd with like 4 or 5 titles on it to watch on a portable dvd player so i dont have more than 1 or 2 discs with me when i go on vacation. i've already come across a program called rat dvd, but it doesnt burn to dvd, instead it saves the dvd as a new file (not a video_ts folder)

    thx in advanced

The only thing i can think of is to convert the film to vcd or Svcd... I quite like Svcds... You might have 1,2 or maybe 3 cd's but the quality is really good. If your portable can read these, IMHO that's the way to go...
DVD2SVCD with CCE(expensive but still the best) or TMPGenc Plus is the way to do it with a guide and all:

Actually I did consider svcd but, im not sure it will actually help me in this situation. although i have found a solution...silly me, i didnt even know it was there. thanks for the reply though

down on the bottom of the one screen of clonedvd2 there is a media option,(it is usually selected ont "dvd-5") one of the selections is "custom", and you can pick any size you want in mbs so i can actually fit them to whatever size i want, so i can use:3, 4, 5, or even higher on one disc if i wanted to. now i just need to get to authoring a menu.

well at least im not forced to sticking with dvd compliant mpeg (or svcd), since i was planning on making a disc of anime. i would need subtitles if i did... which would mean i'd not only have to rip the mpeg and compress it, but i would also need to demux and remux it, and i wanna try to do it the lazy way this time. ;)
