making a backup of dvd9 movie. using the most current programs, dvdfab, fixvts, and imgburn. using Verbatim dL+R disks. Ripped w/ dvdfab. after I used the program fixvts, i used imgburn to burn the info on the disk. everything worked fine. in imgburn, I went to "build" mode, set the speed at 2.4. made sure i had iso9660 + UDF. made my labels. after the burn, the computer plays the movie. Took it out and tried to play it on my dvd player in the living room. It won't read the disk. Dvd player states, "Reading," but nothing else happens. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to use shrink as well? Thought I could avoid shrink? I've burned dvd5s and everything worked fine on my dvd player. any suggestions? should i use the write mode instead of the build mode in imgburn? appreciate it
seems that your DVD player is picky on what disks it wants to play. It is known that some players don't like the Verbatim DL disks...... although the Verbatim DLs are the best DLs to get. the only thing you can do to try to make the player read the disks better is to Booktype the disk to DVD-ROMs (this will make your disks more compatible to play on most players!). Read this: http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php if your burner can be set to booktype to DVD-ROM then you might have better luck with those Verbatim DL +Rs. Remember, you can only booktype the +R media and not the -R media. hopefully this will solve your problem.
since i'm at work, i'll give it a try when i get home. knock on wood, i hope this works. my dvd player is from BOSE, dvd theater package. It's only 2 1/2 yrs old. i think it's junk as well, picky sob. thanks for the info. and my media is +R.
I don't think that BOSE is junk at all! I have BOSE 10.1 Accustimass tower speakers that is over 20 yrs old now that still plays as if it's brand new .... and I have the noise reduction headphones that I don't go anywhere without them! BOSE means quality...... But I must admit that I don't know of their DVD players. I'm sure if you just booktype your DVD+R DLs you should have better luck.
i like my bose theater system. The audio is superb but the dvd player is picky. If there's a few light scratches or smudges, it will lock up and it will not eject the disk. You have to turn the power off on the bose console and then turn it back on to eject the disk. very annoying. I've called bose tech support and they said that's normal.
try again tonight. no luck. i started the process over. ripped the dvd w/ dvdfab. ran fixvts. then ran imgburn. made sure it was set to dvd-rom. was in build mode. when breaking the files, i had three choices. two gray stars and one yellow. I clicked on the yellow star. burn setting at 4x mode. tried 2.4x earlier. runs on the computer just fine, but the bose dvd player states "Reading" and never does anything. looked at the bose manual and it states it reads dvd-r,dvd-rw, and dvd-rom. should i try different media? any suggestions? appreciate it. here's my imgburn log. oh yeah, my dvd dl burner is a lite-on. just bought it from newegg. had great reviews. //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.4.1.0 - Log ; Tuesday, 06 May 2008, 21:31:41 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 20:21:37 ImgBurn Version 2.4.1.0 started! i've tried two other dvd players at work, both sanyos. doesn't play the dvd, pc does though. thinking about purchasing dvdfab plat. before prices go up today. Think i should give that a try? does my log from the imgburn program look alright?
well i finally made peace. i tried 3 different dvd players. 1 was my bose piece of crap lifestyle dvd theater system and the other two were older models. none of the 3 worked with my disk. then i went to my wife's work place and it worked. FINALLY!!!!!!!!! after burning 7 fricken dual layer disks (which still work by the way,) i'm ready to kill my crappy bose system. i recommend not buying a lifestlye dvd player from bose. Nothing but junk. Audio and speakers are nice but the rest is JUNK. now i need a new dvd player. question, will a playstation 3 play these burned copies of dual layer media. Has anybody tried? i would try but i don't know anyone who has a playstation3. was thinking about purchasing one here shortly since i'm a gamer. just been waiting for the price to go down a little bit. But GTA 4 has caught my eye and this dual layer issue may speed my purchasing thoughts up. any thoughts?
7thsinger probably is the one to answer that question regarding a ps3 playing DLs, but I think it does. Since you are a gamer, I'd say go for it on the ps3. You also get a blu-ray player to boot. Hopefully your tv set can display hd, or you might be adding a new tv to your list of things to be bought!
