My first try for a DVD backup... Just downloaded and installed DVDFAB HD Decrypter 3.1.8.0 today. Wanted to backup a DVD: DaVinci Code. Started out fast, then got slower and slower, then crashed after 2 hours... DVD to DVD, Main Movie, processing: Analyzing of DVD completed successfully Copy process started... Copying VTS_01_4.VOB Task time left (after first few minutes) = 40 minutes @ 0.9 MB/s Task time left (after an hour) = 16 hours @ 0.05 MB/s Then it crashed. What's up with that?
Actually that is a little slow from the get go...shouldn't take but 10-15 minutes to rip a disc. Have you checked DMA for all your drives? http://www.burningbits.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2986
Well, it starts out fast, then after about 10 minutes it goes slower and s-l-o-w-e-r then crashes, on VTS_01_4.VOB Is that DMA? My DMA setting is "Ultra-DMA Mode 2" I've installed the latest DVDFab HD Decrypter (3.1.8.0) Do I need anything else?
The DaVinci Code should be old news as far as rippers are concerned and all of the fixes should be able to cope with this disc easily. Could you have a bad disc? Are there scratches visible on the data side of the disc? It could also be a bad disc from the factory, return for exchange. Your drive can slip into PIO mode after "X" amount of read errors and the mode is listed in two places in device manager..."Transfer mode" and just below it "current transfer mode". Both should read the same thing. If the bottom indicates PIO then your drive isn't in DMA. BTW, is this the only disc that slows down your system?
Thanks,LOCOENG. I can't see any visible problems with the DVD itself. All device settings (4 places) indicate DMA: Computer Management... System Tools... Device Manager... IDE... Primary IDE... Advanced settings... Transfer mode... etc... I may try RipIt4Me tomorrow, just to see what happens. The DVD drive is 8x, CPU is 2.5 GHz, Win XP Pro. I've had the same result with four attempts on this DVD. After 10 minutes it goes slower and slower then quits, on VTS_01_4.VOB.
As you can see, this movie was defeated almost a year ago... http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/417415 So there is something wrong with the disc or your PC or method. Good luck.
