I read in a forum that the Memorex DVD discs are not recognized by my DVD burner. My burner has the latest updates but still cannot read the Memorex DVDs. I though I read that there are some more inexpensive brands that will work. Can anyone give me some information regarding this?

    Hi abyd
The HP300 is an older burner with a max burn of 4x and supports only +R discs.
The last firmware update was from 8/2004 so the burner might have problems w/ some 8x media but mostly 16x media.

It can't read the disc cause I'm thinking it's probably a 16x one.

For this drive try and find 8x or lower rated media - in store getting harder to find - depending on where you are.
One's to use (dump the memorex btw - not good) would be Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji(usually made by Taiyo) or made in Japan Maxell.

You can also get good deals online from a reputable site for Verbs & Taiyo Yuden - best - and still find lower rated media.

Let us know what area you are in - members should be able to tell you where to go to buy them.

abyd , you should really consider getting a new burner. you can get a good one for 39 dollars BenQ. you probably wont find any 4x media on the market anymore. i havent seen any in almost a year now
