When I pop a regular dvd into my pc dvdrom drive it will play fine. When I put in a dvd that I burned with nero, it doesn't recognize that its in there. If i put it in my dvd writer drive it'll recognize it and play it. Im afraid tho that the fact that its not recognized by the dvdrom drive means it wont be compatiable with many dvd players. wut do i do
Have you checked to make sure the dvdrom firmware is up to date (unless it's no longer supported), maybe there is a firmware update that will allow it to read more types of media. If it's a premade computer, contact the maker. If it's a dvdrom that you added on later, go to the manufacturer's site to see if it can be updated (most have instructions on how to update the firmware). By the way... If you have a dvd player hooked up to a tv in the house, try the disc in it.
the only working dvd player in my house is a ps2 which won't read the burned discs, only regular dvds. I tried the burned disc in my brother's mini portable dvd player and it works fine, but all of em work fine in there. What is it exactly that seperates a store bought DVD from something I burn?
DVD media for burning has been formatted with the vendor's information telling your dvd burner that you can burn onto it. Store bought media is formatted differently. Some burners won't recognize anything that says it's a +r/rw, some won't see -r/rw. It's all a matter of firmware, encoding/formatting, etc.
I feel like I go through so much trouble just to burn a dvd that can play flawlessly in a DVD player. It'd be nice to just have an easy way to do it and know that it'll work
yea but like sometimes I wanna bring my movies to other ppl's houses and use on their dvd players. I tried a burned copy on my friends dvd player and it just kept skipping the whole way through. They play differently on every dvd player
you could always make 2 copies... 1 on +r, one on -r... then take then with you, one is bound to work. ;-)
Well... my mother-in-law's dvd player doesn't support burned media, so I just take the original dvd's when I visit her. The copies I make are for my 7 year old and 11 year old (to use in their rooms, they have their own dvd players, tvs, dvd shelves, etc). Take the original with you when you visit friends, and just make sure you don't forget it when you return home.
maybe by some coincidence, its just my ps2 that sucks and other DVD players will work w/o skipping now that I'm not converting into dvd format with winavi and I'm just going straight from the DVD
