I have been learning about the whole process of converting and such over the last few months by reading guides on afterdawn. I started by just burning the movie onto a dvd in it's original format which worked for one dvd player in my house but not on two others. I started using VSO DivxtoDVD to get the video_ts files or whatever and then using imgburn to either create an iso(to burn or watch) or just burning the files onto a dvd. This has worked for all the dvd players in my house but not on two friend's dvd player. I read yesterday about creating menus since the tvs displayed "disc playback error" and "unknown disc error". I tried using DVD Flick to create a menu and convert the movie or whatever it does and then burn with imgburn. This worked again on MY dvd players, although the menu did not play at all but it worked on one friend's dvd player but not the others. My question basically is am I going about the process in the wrong way completely or do some dvd players just not play certain dvds? I am burning on Sony brand dvds and I also have DVD Shrink 3.2 and Nero StartSmart which I never use. Are either of these better than what I am using or should I just discard them? Nero seems to have lots of extra crap included that I never use. Any help would be appreciated, I think I've read every guide on afterdawn and still can not figure this out
Something to be aware of is whether the DVD has been formatted as NTSC or PAL Not all players can output both.
sgavgani, First, what speed are you using to burn your dvd? Try to burn at 4X instead of max. Second if you are using nero to burn, always change the option to DVD-ROM. Try these method and then let me know if you still got any problems.
I never burn at max i usually burn at 2x, sometimes 4. I don't really like nero so i don't use it much. You suggest using nero over the other programs i was using?
Most here suggest Imgburn over Nero. It's possible some of the machines don't like certain media, some may like a particular dye, or they may prefer DVD+ over DVD-. I doubt if it's anything you're doing wrong. I always burn at 12x (to 16x media) and never had a problem. In fact you can use Nero's CD/DVD speed "disk quality" tab to get a general score of disk quality. Some media may benefit from a slow burn, some may not.
Well I'm not really advocating Nero, just mentioned CD/DVD speed in the Nero Tool Kit as a possibility for evaluating burn quality. Frankly, if he's offended by my mentioning it, he can tell me himself.
Hi guys, sorry if I've jumped into the wrong forum with this. A friend just bought Hancock at Costco, when she puts it in her standalone DVD player she gets "no signal" on the screen. Odd, since it's brand new, and she has no trouble with other DVD's. I asked her if it appeared dirty, or if she'd inserted it upside down, she said "no", and I was wondering if it could be a 1 in a million that the label was put on the wrong side of the disc at the factory. If anyone has had such a problem please let me know. Thanks.
