i've been backing up my dvds for years. but today it just stopped working. i use a combination of dvd shrink 3.2 and dvd fab 5 or dvd decrypter 3.5.4.0 for heavy decryption ( but still put it through dvd shrink after) nero, and imagtool Burn 1.1.0. and burn on dvd-r. i used dvd fab on hancock and then ran the decrypted file through Writing to disc dvd shrink but the burn failed after i put in a blank disc. i get the same message whether i use dvd shrink from the start or just use imgtool directly from the right click drop down menu when i click on the movie folder stored by divd shrink on the hard drive. the highlights of the error message are ===> Burn process started at 2.4x (3,324 KB/s) ===> Illegal disc ===> Could not perform start of Disc-at-once ===> Burn process failed at 2.4x (3,324 KB/s) 1A23-0085-3040-2081-5956-4525 it may be coincidence but it was a new pack of tdk dvd-rs i got at frys. i tried another movie, strange wilderness with little decryption needed just through dvd shrink, and same message with burn failed. also tried another movie i had previously successfully backed up, life aquatic, and still burn failed. so then i tried a new batch of dvd-rs, magnavox dvd-r, and still no success. i've reinstalled dvd shrink as well. however, i was able to successfully burn a music mp3 cd so the burner still seems to be working. just wanted to rule out all the things i thought might be helpful in making a diagnosis. thanks in advance, and here is the full error message: Can't open INI file (C:\Program Files\ImgTool Burn\ImgTool.ini), using default settings... Your DMA is off, it needs to be on. Use decent media for more consistent results...such as Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. Your firmware is out of date, update to 2.18. http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/NEC-ND-3500A/
Here, how to reset/enable DMA back on http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 About the firmware, LOCOENG provided you the link, so you gotta download the same model as your drive and update the firmware.
This should be the right firmware ~ http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/fwinfo/en/3500a/218 To flash your drive you will also need binflash Win32 GUI ~ http://binflash.cdfreaks.com/ When flashing make sure the drive is empty (no disc), tray closed and reboot after a successful flash.
when i expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in the device manager i dont get the same selections as you show on your tutorial. i only get "NVIDIA NForce 2 (tm) SPP/IGP ATA Controller. and the link for the firmware update takes me to a page that is unavailable. it sounds like were heading in the right direction though, thanks for your help so far. anymore suggestions?
