    @ ladyday
    Welcome to AD!)

321 studios were out of business for awhile, but they are back. here is a link to their site: http://www.321studiosinc.com/?gclid=CMLJnrq_qIYCFQpRUAodpxjkAA

You may try contacting tech support from their. However, you may be interested to know that there are a lot of free programs to use to get the job done for you.

    DVDFab Decrypter
    http://dvdidle.com/free.htm
This decrypter is updated often. DVD Decrypter is not updated anymore but is still a great program.

    DVD Shrink
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm
Here is a guide to get you started:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/how_to_copy_dvd_with_dvd_shrink.cfm

    VobBlanker
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/voblanker.cfm
Here is a guide for this software. This software may seem difficult at first but you quickly learn the tricks. If you have any questions you may PM me. Here is a guide to get you going (Thanks Alkohol!):

If you do not have Nero to burn your movies you may want to use two other free tools. You will need both of them because ImgBurn can not read certain file types.

    ImgTool
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/imgtool_classic.cfm

    ImgBurn
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/imgburn.cfm

[bold]*Now for some basic steps using free tools*[/bold]
It may take a little longer but it is worth it!

1)Decrypt you movie using DVDFab Decrypter. When doing this it will ask you where to place the movie. If you have a second drive to use then use it and if not just use your C drive because the transfer is faster. DVDFab will create a folder called DVDFabDecrypter_Temp\DVD\in this folder you will find two folders. One folder is called AUDIO_TS and the other is called VIDEO_TS. This is the location of your movie after it has been decrypted.

    2) Open DVD Shrink. At the top you will see a button that says open files. Select that and then look for DVDFabDecrypter_Temp file. Select the "+" sign next to it and highlight DVD folder. Now press OK and the file will take a minute to analyze. Once it is analyzed at the top you will see two buttons. One button says Full Disc and The other Re-author.

Now I always use full disc but many people use re-author. When you use full disc you want your compression settings as close to 100% as possible. I generally recommend 75% minimum. Now there are a few tips I could give you but it would be too detailed. I suggest going to step 3 if you do not have a good compression setting.

    3) Open VobBlanker. Now this program takes a little time to get use to but you have to process all of the titles in the top category. However, by selecting each category at the bottom section you may view each one. This allows you to Blank out unwanted material. Also if you double click an item at the top you may Blank out unwanted material. This comes in great for getting rid of previews, FBI Warning, ratings, Sony logo's and black screens. The big key is to make sure that everything is processed in the top section, but within each section you may Blank out material. Then process it. It will only take about 15 minutes to process, however you have to tell it where to process the information. You will have to create two folders such as this: Silent_Witness\VIDEO_TS. The VIDEO_TS is the area for the movie to be processed to. After this is finished then go back to Shrink. If you have an error with Shrink then you did not process correctly. Read the above instructions to help you get an idea, and after you play with it several times you will understand.

For an example some movies have both full screen and wide screen and you may only want the wide screen edition. You may Blank out the full screen version of the movie. By doing this you save a considerable amount of room.

    4) ImgTool is used to convert the program for ImgBurn to read. Only use this tool if you do not have Nero.

    5) ImgBurn is used to burn the movie to a DVD.

Once you have mastered these concepts you will have no problem burning backups of your movies. Now if you do not mind spending a little money, many people on this forum are happy with AnyDVD & DVDCloner2. You can get a free trial of these programs at slysoft.com. With the use of these programs you can forget the stuff I mentioned above. AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 are updated regularly and will give you perfect quality movies with just a few clicks of the mouse. Now the rest is up to you. Good luck and let me know if this information was useful.

Thank you, and again welcome to AD:)
P.S. Hope this wasn't too long!!

    ireland-
I thank you for that update. I was pretty sure that they went out of business. I did a search and found that site and assumed that they were back. I appreciate that knowledge. Not that I would ever buy the stuff again!)

My DVD X Copy Platinum won't activate thru their servers. I give up on them. I have a Dell laptop with a DVD burner using Sonic burning software. Which DVD program do you guys recommend (free and $) for me to continue backing up my DVD movies? THANKS! You can post or PM me. I would prefer easy and free!
